It’s Friday, therefore by law oop North, it HAS to be chippy tea.

I’m back in hospital again for surgery (season 2, episode 6). I was a bit... underwhelmed. The previous two dinners (which I forgot to photograph) were chicken Tikka and rice, and roast chicken dinner (breast portion, roast spuds, carrots, broccoli, stuffing and gravy). Neither looked very good, but actually tasted pretty ok. Everything tonight was just “soggy” and flavourless. Even the custard on the jam sponge was watery, the sponge was way too light as well. I think it needs to let you know you’ve eaten it by sitting in your stomach, weighing you down...

I haven’t visited the dirty takeaway thread for a few days. I suspect in about five minutes I’m going to be very sad indeed!

I hope you're on the mend, but sad to see what they serve up in a hospital. Quite shocking really.

Sticks.

That doesn't look too bad for hospital food. When I was in Stanmore the long term chaps used to get takeaway deliveries several times a week. Custard should stay where it's put though.

Get home soon smile

The food is edible, if limited. I’m in for a week to ten days, depending on just how quickly I can get stable again on crutches (my duff leg has gone from being longer than my good leg to shorter, again, so there’s an element of mental recalibration too).

The Just Eat option is always there and I’ve had “relief aid” brought in by my GF (nuts, brownies, apples, Haribo...). I won’t starve!

Not sure where you’re based but in Scotland the food served in NHS hospitals is much better. That’s really grim.

Another saturday night curry.
Rubbish photo but tasty dinner!

Ceylon chicken, rice, devilled potatoes, coconut + red onion & coriander roti, cucumber salad with lime juice and coriander, coconut chutney, spicy lime pickle.

I would have taken a photo of the the mixed fruit sorbet but it didn't freeze in time to serve, whoops! rolleyesbiggrin

Can't beat opening that paper after blind cooking it, the smell is amazing.

It could probably have done with a bit longer under the grill at the end to brown the top but kept burning the paper.

I use the oven to brown it off at about 200. Blind cook for about 3-4 hrs, remove foil, cut back paper and back in the oven.

Is that cloves in the meat?? Does the power of them do it justice?

I have a few of the sainsbury's recipe books, the thought being i can buy all the ingredients from them and there is not anything you can't get hold of.
But here is the online version
