Unfortunately - the memories/rose tinted as they are just don't translate into a decent plate of food.
Very true, I recently spotted Brains faggots in Aldi and gleefully picked up a couple of boxes... how wrong could I be frown
We ate those a lot as kids. Are they awful? I imagine they are just soft non-descript mush these days
Awful to the point they were inedible. I had a couple of mouthfuls and we binned the lo. Had to knock up a quick chicken curry to compensate.

Sticks.

I remember them in the 70s as being very salty, even by the standards of the day, so I wouldn't. I might risk a Fray Bentos pie though scratchchin

Play it safe: minced beef and onion between two doorstops of heavily buttered bread is an acceptable sandwich.

Mrs 48K spent the day at Chatsworth doing "horse stuff" today so I got the chance to indulge myself in the kitchen cooking dinner knowing she would not want a dinner tonight after a day of burger van nonsense.

Starter: scallops on black pudding with minted pea puree and parsley oil

Main: roasted duck breast with confit duck leg bon-bon, mascerated cherries, cherry sauce and toasted almonds

Superb, top presentation and portion size looks good to me. Any desert?
Thanks. Pud was hot chocolate fondant - I made several the other week (Gordon Ramsay recipe) and they freeze / reheat really well.

I'd pair that with Theakston's Old Peculiar, three for a fiver at Tesco. thumbup

Haha I had to try it to remind me of what I don’t miss from the early 80s. Whole meal was about £1.70 hehe

Never again

I can't ever imagine being in the supermarket and browsing the tinned meat isle and ever looking at a tin of burgers and thinking yep, they look alright, i can see a meal there, i'll buy them

Whatever floats your boat but they look foul
I think we've hit a new low for this thread. Tinned meat and tinned veg is the sort of thing my grandparents used to eat when postwar food shortages kicked in. In fact, I think I ate better as a poor student.

Surely it takes so little effort to cook some 'fresh' burgers and frozen veg if that's what you really wanted?
I dont think it matters. food is food. if you haven't got issue with eating spam or tinned corned beef then you shouldn't have issue with this.

This reminds me of that trucker who used to post pictures of his pasta + mixed veg + dolmio and ended up pretty much getting bullied off this thread.

Nobody is going to eat a steak or roast every day. sometimes you might just eat something cheap or easy, or whatever is available. I keep lots of things like this as a backup for when there's nothing else or i want minimal fuss/time. I'm more curious about these mundane foods than I am of people posting the same roasts, steaks, burgers, etc..

You should've used tinned potatoes for full effect rather then waste JRs - who peels JRs btw?

it matters as much as the prevailing wind of the thread determines. Clearly no one is going to eat beef wellington every day, but there is a clear difference between people going ok i will post only the interesting bits that punctuate my diet, if i reckon others might be interested, maybe post the recipe or the method, or even just to look at pictures of how some people prepare food as some of us a pretty good at it... we can all benefit...... it isn't just a elite wkathon OR your trucker example and his mates currently posting punched frozen food and deliberately terrible stuff in this thread, clearly taking the piss or doing it to annoy people, and then getting defensive when people say it's st. Fookin says pitchers of me dinner and vis is a pitcher of me fookin dinner. Most of them probably call it tea though.

I could have done agreed but the JR’s were left over and way past their best which is why I peeled them. I wouldn’t normally
