Not a fan of Vegan or vegetarian for that matter but that's a great website. Think I'll do her Easter bread to go with the soup yum

Honey in lieu of sugar beet syrup or golden syrup?

Thanks 48k.

I start with a dry rub - smoked paprika, garlic salt, dried oregano, black pepper, brown sugar, onion powder, cayenne pepper and olive oil. Then leave to marinade for a few hours.

Cook over hot coals once they reach their prime temperature, no naked flame. Turning regularly.

Finally finish off basting with bbq sauce for the last 5 minutes, to prevent burning. If you apply the bbq sauce too early it burns.

Take off the grill and rest for 10 minutes wrapped in tinfoil.

Perfect bbq chicken.

Wouldn’t that bench be a potential inferno. Get pretty hot those grills

Yes, if the kettle was touching it I guess. The kettle sits on stainless 'L' brackets under the lip. They are about 15mm higher than the thickness of the wood.

Went to Rye just before the weekend and did a fish restaurant the first day, very good food. Webbes at the fish Cafe. Sadly the sea bass for my wife was AWOL so she had the plaice, but whelk and prawn h'ordeurves, starter and main were really good.

Very nice indeed.

The next night I wanted to book into the Tuscan kitchen which gets really good reviews and the menu looked fantastic. We rang them up at 11am on the day to get a seat, only to hear the recorded message --

"We are fully booked until 2nd May"

Computer says no biggrin 2nd May ? Jeez.

Damn, they must be good, or just have one table. So I hastily booked some steak place on my phone but I was never happy with that as I thought it would be a let down after the last meal. However, thanks to the internet found a spot at the Landgate Bistro.

The only time I could get was 9pm. Due to old age this is normally the sort of time we are both snuggling down to Horlicks followed by an Ovaltine chaser. Can we go to a meal at 9pm? The last time I did that I was in Spain and woke up on the beach cuddling a cuttlefish called Carlos who had a tickly moustache.

We took the gamble, and it was very nice. Sadly I forgot my proper camera from the night before and had to use my phone which cost less than the meal. Just squint and have a few beers to not make it so out focus. frown Did not do the meal justice. Anyhow....

Amuse bouche

pigeon starter

scallops and pork belly ( note not an insult to my wife)

duck with parsnip and "greens"

Rabbit with cottage rabbit !

Deserts

creme brulee with prunes soaked in brandy

Not eaten a prune since my matron made me eat some at boarding school in Lewisham 40 years back, if only she had done them this way......

My wife's delicious plump pair, sorry, pear.

One downer was a couple who finished at 11pm only to be told their taxi would not arrive until 12.30am...... for fecks sake Rye, get your transportation sorted out .....

I revved up the trusty Astra Elite Estate 1.4i turbo as we left just to put a full stop to a fantastic evening.....

Salad, Veggies?! No, it was just that.

I managed 4 BBQ's this weekend, 1 a day (some lunch, so dinner), only had some salad 1 of the days.

It was BH weekend, the rest of the time it's chicken and veg. I don't bother posting photos of that!
