Lamb, with a nice salad of Spanish tomatoes, sherry vinegar, dukkah, bbq’d peppers, courgette and haloumi, served with bbq flatbreads. No plates pictures. I’ll make the baba gaboush later for the fridge - didn’t have time to make it for the dinner

Please stop posting bbq photos! Especially halloumi, I can’t do one and it’s killing me!

So I’ll settle for a non-bowl burrito bowl

After dinner, I made the baba ganoush - think it really needs two aubergines as there isn’t a lot of meat once you’ve got rid of the seedy bits!

Aubergine, the garlic squeezed out of their pods after roasting, yogurt, salt and lemon juice. I must remember to buy some tahini albeit it’s still good without it. Mashed it all with my fingers then a fork

We should move down your neck of the woods
Chris! We did seriously consider it a few years ago … my wife is a Spanish teacher, we know friends that teach in an English school, and I can work as a digital nomad!! Food heaven ….

imho wagyu is an unbeatable burger meat but it's not as good as a steak meat.

even the Asda wagyu burgers are a sensation when cooked on a BBQ. I used to cook them on a disposable BBQ mounted on a black and decker. some beers, happy days.

anyway, pasta bake night with some of the in laws home brew IPA.

Yeah, if you like to cook and know where to shop it’s a paradise here. Fish and seafood in particular, are great value. I buy Dorada at €6.50/kg and red Snapper at €9.95. This week I bought some boquerones (fresh anchovies) for a weekend afternoon snack… half a kg was only €2.5. Floured, shallow fried, bit of lemon juice and some garlic mayo yum

I probably wouldn't base my judgement on wagyu by anything bought in Asda...

laugh

I don't think wagyu itself makes good burgers tbh, too fatty. Needs to be cut with something a bit leaner or the texture is all wrong.

Wagyu/Angus cross is a pretty good bet for something between full wagyu and traditional beef.

The Wagyu Ribeye I had in Da Nang was utterly fantastic - and definitely nicer than anything we can get round here. In fact I'd say it was the best steak I've ever had - but then it was over £100, which is pricey for Vietnam.

So worth it though.

Interestingly we went to La Maison, the Michelin starred restaurant in the Intercontinental where they also served Wagyu beef, and it wasn't a patch in what I'd had from the steakhouse.

Plus being "fine dining", the portion was....small.

All very nice, but also very rich which caused us a few problems over the next couple of days....it was our first proper fine dining experience and whilst it was good to say we'd done it, we wouldn't be in a hurry to repeat it - far preferred the beach barbecue I posted a few days ago.

They did find out it was (almost) our 6th Wedding Anniversary and did us a special dessert which was a lovely touch.

We did also taste possibly the foulest thing ever - Oyster Ice Cream. Much ew such wow.

did you actually go to any more down to earth places? It really is what SE Asia does well.

Yes we went to a few - one of our hotels had a lovely Beach Restaurant we ate at a lot, and found a few more local places during the trip - including a lovely Pizza place called 4p's Pizza, which made the finest pizza base I've tasted.

Only thing we struggled with was the properly local cuisine, due to the wife's seafood allergy, which limited us somewhat. We also found a couple of really good microbreweries (Section 30 and East West Brewing Co for reference) - and consumed plenty of chilled Larue.
