A lot of 'mince pies' in name only there. I hate all those mince pies trying to add something. It should be pastry, mince meat and alcohol. Sugar on top, if you must.

Hactually, 5 of the 8 fall under your definition though only one of the other three is mince meat based. Having said that the rum one just tastes of rum despite being a 'proper' mince pie.

A vote for Waitrose all butter mince pies here. Good pastry, well filled.

Not the #1 (although we have some to try), but the run of the mill 2-packs for £4 ones.

I loved Sainsburys store baked ones. B'stards have stopped making 'em in my local one! The 'Sainsburys' boxed ones aren't the same. Taste the Difference are ok'ish but more expensive! Will give Morrisons a try.

Not a regular in Sainsbo's these days, if they've stopped the store baked ones that's a shame.

Go back quite some years when Mrs F was still working in their pharmacy in the days before it went to Lloyd's and then finally was closed there used to be a competition between stores as to who could sell the most store baked mince pies.

The only one I’ve had so far this year, was Co-op top spec all butter pastry. Was absolutely superb to be fair. Need to try others to give it some perspective to be fair.

Was keen to try these as I’ve not had them before. They’re quite nice but not great. Mincemeat is a little flavourless and the pastry is not quite right. Maybe this is because there’s no butter being vegan. Whatever, the packet won’t last long.

Whilst in Morrisons I bought a box of their deep filled mince pies as mentioned earlier in this thread, but didn't find them any better than any other mince pie, then I realised I'd bought Mr Kippling deep filled mince pies by mistake which aren't really deep filled at all.


This Xmas I might just buy some Eccles cakes as I love puff pastry mince pies, which Eccles cakes 'kind of' are.

A box? Just to clarify, the ones that I think are amazing are the pack of 4 from the bakery in the plastic tray. Not a box.

Waitrose all butter ones are the best supermarket ones I've found so far. Good amount of tasty mincemeat and good pastry.
The though are still Greggs which is a surprise as pretty much everything else they do is crap.

Did a blind test taste last night on 7 different pies with 10 friends.

Lidl specially selected won by some margin.

Had pies from Tesco, Aldi, Lidl & Sainsburys, budget & better quality.

Show how tastes differ as I just finished a pack of those and to me they are some of the worst I have tried this year. Bland dry pastry, lack of filling which had an interesting citrus hint but not much more, and then a sticky glazing that made them messy to eat.
