My neighbour has just brought ours round, it's almost like she knew about this thread.

At least yours seem washed!

Beware if you're buying eggs from (for example) farm shops where they are in trays, and make a point of checking the codes stamped on the eggs. From memory 0=organic, 1= free range, 2= barn hens, 3= caged.

A good few years ago I checked eggs that were in trays at a farm shop associated with a garden centre, where you chose your own and put them in boxes. The implication was that they were farm eggs, but they were stamped with code 3.
Same with everything else in a farm shop!!

Another vote for CC but I also quite like the Heritage Breed Copper Marans they sell in my local Asda.

I am not averse to the mud and have a large free range egg farm in spitting distance but I don't rate them either.
I have just found this year its all gone very tasteless dont know if its the weather or perhaps the farms are using cheaper feed due to Brexit I dunno. I will hunt down some from a back yard type place.
Your last point nails it.

The "farm shop" you mentioned earlier, isn't.

We have chickens so get decent eggs. Large amount of corn in the diet of ours.

You cannot beat decent eggs from known good chickens.

Only hassle is between the birds not always laying and the cost of decent feed (which is nowt to do with feckin Brexit) they're not cheap smile

Clarence Court from Sainsburys. We've tried all the supermarket eggs, organic, free range. Clarence Court are head and shoulders superior to all others sold by the big retailers.
This. Clarence court are always beautifully fresh with a lovely deep orange yolk.

Clarence Court are amazing. The only ones we have had that come close are ones from our local butcher, but CC win.

I find frying them in tons of butter makes normal free range eggs taste fine biggrin

And then when you add toast, spinach avacado etc, not sure I will be able to tell the difference.

Well.. butter does make everything taste better...

When cooking, if something doesn't taste quite right, usually more butter or more salt fixes it laugh

Butter makes many things taste better.

BUT the taste of a decent yolk should be lifting any dish. If you've never noticed this, you've likely never had a decent egg smile

we rescued 2 ex battery hens from 'Freshstartforhens'.

We get 2 eggs a day. They're proper free range and loving life, and their eggs are great. They're real characters too, and it's been great to see them go from skinny featherless scrawny chickens to fat, glossy plumaged hens.

They do st everywhere though.

Again farm shop here. Might as well be an entirely different food item from what you get in the supermarkets. Also their chicken is another thing thats simply miles better too, goes off quickly though.

Just purchased some CC from Waitrose. We no longer keep hens, so it'll be interesting to see how these compare to home laid.

Agree, they’re fabulous!
Amazing after both you said what tasted decent in an egg everyone still came out with hens eggs of various non flavours.

DUCK EGGS.

you can eat as many fancy pant hen eggs as you want costing £10 per egg or you neighbour does a cesarean section on the bird and delivers a hens egg covered in gold leaf.....It still ain't going to taste as good as a duck egg.

end of story.

A duck egg tastes like full fat jersey milk whereas any hens egg tastes like semi skimmed.

Some people (not me) find the flavour of duck eggs too strong.

I had some poached eggs this morning which were very nice, golden yolks, think they were from Aldi.

Must have been very fresh as they were delicious, slight sprinkle of salt on each yolk, heavily buttered warburton toast. Magic

Must ask my regular London hotel where they get their eggs from. The yolk is always a deep orange alnmost red sometimes, and they are pretty tasty.

The palest is like this

This. They're also very yoke heavy with little white, so although good for a fried egg, not so good for egg dishes that need plenty of white.
