So we had a thread on here about crisps.. how about one for oven chips?

I'm keen to hear peoples opinions on which ones are good, bad. or which supermarket ones taste the same as more expensive brand ones (if any).

I was 100% against oven chips until I was recommended these.

Triple cooked McCain oven chips. They are coated in beef dripping and are fantastic

M&S do similar but are not as good

I'll try them and continue to watch this thread with interest!

Cheap and easy dinner, dunno why my other half is so against them!

Put your oven chips in the air fryer. Changed the way I thought about oven chips being dry disgusting things.

Those gastro chips are good but as hotchy says get an air fryer and oven chips become excellent. Aldi Skin on are our favourites.

while I get that many of you say an air fryer makes things better..this should be about which oven chip is best. pretty sure we all have ovens. but not everyone has decided to frvilously spend on an air fryer.

I don't have any real access to UK shops but I picked these up from Tesco and they were way better than any of the normal frozen chip options I've seen. They were expensive though, 3 euros for 1 portion. I just had a look and they're £2 in UK

What does the "5+ days" thing mean?

It doesn't take long to peel and cut a potato. 5mins.

Why buy oven chips frozen?

Yes but the best oven chip is improved 10 fold by going in the air fryer wink

I got a cheap lidl one for £39.99.

I’d say nearer 2 mins. Oven chips are hateful things.

A Bag of decent spuds for £2 lasts a couple of weeks and makes such a variety of different end products / recipes. One of the most versatile and great ingredients there is.

because once you've peeled and cut the potato you need to heat a pan of oil to 170 degrees, fry the chips for around 8 minutes, take them out, cool them and dry them, then heat the pan of oil to 190 degrees and fry the cooled and dried chips for 2 more minutes. You then need to clean up the pan of oil (or leave it on the hob for 2 weeks until you next make chips)

Oh I see, that triple fry lark.

Personally if i want healthier chips I peel and oven cook. Otherwise go down the chippy

But fair enough.
