I'll be honest and say I'm not overly impressed with some of the Cole & Mason grinders.

I will definitely be buying Peugeot in future.
The ones above are the first I’ve ever bought and so did a little research after your comment.

It would seem that C&M now offer some products such as the one above with ceramic and carbon mechanisms. I believe they withdrew this for a while?

Having served a full toolmakers apprenticeship in a family business (I started around 10 years old!) that predominantly made cutting tools I can honestly vouch for them. As I understand the Rockwell scale, materials and cutting angles involved I really think these will last for many many years.

That aside, I love the design and the easily adjusted grinding size settings. I don’t work for, or know anyone involved in C&M for the record!

We've settled on the oxo good grips salt and pepper grinders, better than the cole&mason I had before. and very good value for the money (though metal and plastic rather than real wood). The grinder is at the top, so you only invert them to grind - so much less mess, adjustable (3 settings) ceramic burrs, and easy to hold. Never had any peugot's to compare them with, but these work well and last (other family members have had them for 10 or so years).

I'm something of a grinder geek and have been hunting down the perfect model for what seems a lifetime now.

Mrs Loto got me a Peugeot pepper mill at Christmas thinking it was the holy grail but I'm oddly unimpressed by it (or perhaps nonplussed is the more apposite term) - the action feels strangely 'wrong' and the grind is too fine for me.

I went for lunch below before lockdowns started and the salt and pepper grinders were simply superb - I checked the name and lodged it in my mind but I'm damned if I can recall it! Must return once we are allowed out if only to check out the grinders - they were a double barrelled UK make I think but not one I recognised like C&M:

PS: if you visit the above site the grinders are on the table in the 'Sun Room' - stainless steel affairs, anyone recognise them?

I use WMF grinders (they were a gift):

https://www.wmf.com/en/kitchen-gadgets/season-enha...

Good stuff and still consistent texture after 3 years use. However wind them the "wrong" way and the cap can unscrew, causing condiment catastrophe. After one or two such events I'm learning...

How would you lightly season food using that?

You’re welcome was quite fun putting the mind to work. Didn’t think the price was bad at all but sadly we have matching Le Creuset ones which aren’t that great but the Mrs wouldn’t approve of a change.

I’ve recently purchased these and have been really pleased with them. I got the cheap acrylic stand too and they look decent on the table. The mechanism seems really well made. I’ve only used with maldon sea salt so far.

We were given these as a wedding present 3 years ago, they're excellent, no complaints whatsoever. Had I bought ones myself there's no way I'd have paid that much though!

Based on this thread and this quoted post I started to look to replace the pepper mill in my Cole & Mason set. The salt mill works fine, but the pepper one struggles if I want a decent quantity and some times I can see the pepper corns get stuck trying to fall into the grinding gap. After ~4-6 weeks watching prices it dropped to an all time low (according to UK camel camel camel) I grabbed a WMF mill like the above (and which now has been reduced price to being even cheaper - doh - though I suspect the shipping price may be internal to Germany, not external to the UK). Washed, dried, and tested. Massive difference. Was worth the wait.
