Looking at the cooking times I'd still wager that they are too thick.
I've experimented with supermarket burgers and 100% of test subjects preferred the same burger after I'd hammered it flat.
It's all about the texture...

For those of you holed up in Germany try the Edeka "Salt and Pepper Burgers" - meaty, don't shrivel up when cooked and taste great. A piece of cheese and some chopped onions for the win smile

yup. I make double/half pounder burgers using the 4 packs from the supermarket. I don't have a good stirdy spatula for pressing down in the pan so i wrap put cling film over the bottom of a flat pot (the heavier the better) makes for easy flattening Can then comfortably fit 2 quarter pounders into a bun, plus it cooks faster.

I find most the supermarket ones under seasoned, however the standard Costco ones are very good - might be dependant on your branch as they are locally made by the in warehouse butchers.

I don’t know the non frozen Costco ones I find just utterly stuffing.

Whereas the Costco Waguy burgers mmmmm.

Costco frozen steak burgers are in pretty good too.

Are we allowed to talk about Lamb burgers and dare I say it … chicken burgers?

I tried these but they were way too sweet

In terms of burgers Mrs C tends to make batches of chicken and lamb shami kebabs and freezes them - delicious and takes 2 minutes to prepare a burger

Costco American burger buns are superb.
Agreed, however their hot dog rolls are horrific - they taste so sweet, it's like they're at least 60% sugar.

I've been umm'ing and aah'ing over their finnebrogue wagyu burgers but based on the responses here I think I'll grab a packet on the weekend to chuck on the bbq.

Another hater here for a brioche roll with a burger. I just find them too sweet.

I'm a big fan of the brioche bun, but then I started using slices of brioche before it became fashionable (all because at some point I had some cold roast beef and a croissant to use up for lunch).

I think it’s possibly a fad thing. I love brioche so sort of fell into the trap of thinking that it’s the go to burger bun, oft
on occasion making multiple trips to different vendors to procure some. I can also remember eating brioche as a treat in my youth so it must resonate internally on some level.

However, since I have found a source of proper American buns with good substance and sesame seeds on, I can conclude they massively outperform the supermarket brioche offerings. I have done a full U turn and feel I’ve been missing out for at least 5 years since Brioche became the bun du jour. It is after all as mentioned a breakfast item, make no mistake about that. I feel duped in many ways.

I wonder why we have as a nation appear to have gone down the route of brioche as default. It is my opinion there is a sound market for proper burger buns in the mainstream supermarkets.

Used to swear by the Morrisons burgers with bone marrow but they stopped doing them earlier this year, chasing them up on emails didn't get to the bottom of why they kept the inferior chuck steak ones and replaced the far superior bone marrow.

Now either use the Lidl ones with bone marrow or the tesco ultimate.

Tip tip for either, press them to half thickness, season with a bit of salt and black pepper and a touch of paprika. Then either BBQ or cook in a frying pan.

Then assemble to your preference. For me it's either a toasted brioche bun or ciabatta, bacon, chorizo and cheese (monterey Jack) and BBQ sauce. Salad has no place in burgers smile

They're back - tried some last week (and also the chuck steak ones). I liked them - possibly the best of the supermarket branded ones included the luxury/greatest versions.

ALDI's 'ultimate' burgers use bone marrow too.

Had the Kirkland Aberdeen Angus burgers from Costco the other week, for a shop bought burger they were very nice.
