Quick question, do Wetherspoons still serve steaks?
I wanted a mixed grill at the Ramsgate Wetherspoons but there were no steaks or mixed grill on the menu. But I have had a mixed grill there before.
No. It doesn't look as though they do steaks in Ramsgit.I wanted a mixed grill at the Ramsgate Wetherspoons but there were no steaks or mixed grill on the menu. But I have had a mixed grill there before.

Wonder why? They don't do steaks in some of the West End pubs either. Dunno why.

Some Spoons don’t have planning permission for the type of ventilation needed to sear things, so don’t do the steaks, the one inside Victoria station is like that.
The one in Waterloo Station also does not have steaks on its menu. The 2nd Spoons for Beaconsfield in the new town had a minor change to the licensing passed recently to include a front and rear terrace and bars on the ground and first floor, the building started life as a picture house/cinema in 1927 and is going to be called 'The Chiltern'

Talking of Steak and Mixed grills.
They plus Gammon are being removed from the menu permanently in May to be replaced by a gourmet burger.
Apparently they're the biggest loss makers on the food menu so they're getting rid.
Shame as they were one of the few who offered Lamb with their Mixed grills.

Not wishing to be judgemental, but, I wonder if part of it is because cooking steaks is too skillful for some of their kitchen staff. Many steak buyers would want to pick rare/medium/well done/etc. and are more likely to send back something over/under done - leading to waste on one of the most expensive food item they offer.
Whereas you can't really mess up a burger, or boil in a bag curry etc.

The pubs in better areas seem to be less likely to do steaks than pubs in less affluent areas. Of course from May, no pubs are going to do steaks.
Interesting info about the steaks, thanks. I don't eat as much meat as I used to but I always thought the mixed grills were a great deal.
I think it's a shame they're removing them completely, but I don't think Spoons steaks are as good as they used to be. A decade or two ago, the meat was generally decent and the standard steak used to come with a big mushroom (maybe a portabello) and tomato. For the last few years, you have to pay the 'gourmet' price to get the veg, the mushroom and tomato are tiny, and the steak usually has one side full of inedible stringy stuff.
Talking about menus differing between branches, I was surprised to find sausage and mash still on the menu in Cambridge the other day... seems to have been replaced by sausage and chips everywhere near where I live some time ago.

Had to try the third-pints for 71p each last week. They had 4 beers available on this offer, so seemed sensible to order all 4, along with a Korean chicken bowl.

I absolutely love their Korean sticky chicken. I'm sure something similar will be available in Iceland store for when I cant be bothered to visit a Spoons or make my own. Spoons is the tasting ground for Iceland, but nothing wrong with that
