I completely ignore the cooking instructions, which if you follow them, makes the pastry hard. The key is to cook at a low temp, for a long time.
Oh good, not just mine then. I air fry them, and last time it was quite tricky cutting into the pastry. But as I've got a small air fryer, I can't really be creative with temperatures because I feel the need to use the same temperature for the chips, and if I do the pie for much less time, it's still cold in the centre. Sometimes I'll do the pie for a reasonable amount of time, then cut it open and microwave it for 30s at the end just to fix that. carguy45 said:
On a related subject, it's been a long time since I made chicken curry pie, and it was always great .... must get the finger out.
Slightly related, and while not anything like the quality that I imagine a home-made pie will be (unless I make it, that is) the Iceland Chicken Balti pies are nice.^ 4 for £2.50 in Iceland, though I don't know how they compare. Not as much in them as the Pukka ones, of course. I've recently had a couple of Pukka Chicken Vindaloo pies, they're very nice.
Air fryer times on packets are usually far too long, and my fryer is just a basic one like a big kettle. And it's not always made clear just how much of the packet they think I'm going to cook for their suggested time, which has to make some difference.

It is good to be a rebel with cooking times/ temps...
Yes, it's just a pain when the other bits of the meal have come out right, and are sitting there waiting to be eaten, and I still have to mess around with extra cooking for other parts or deal with a pie that has a crust stronger than concrete. I try to make notes of how stuff comes out so I can adjust if necessary next time, but I buy a lot of stuff on clearance that I only get once. Nothing fancy. I did this beef rice veg recipe from Reciptineats
Used frozen mince and didn't have any baby spinach to add.
I didn't have enough mixed frozen veg so added frozen broccoli and cauliflower.
Tasted pretty good, I get bored of food pretty easily but i this this tastes good enough that i wont get bored eating the additional portions over the next few days. I wanted to add kidney beats but didn't, next time i definitely will, or maybe another bean.

Chicken curry pie and chips. Pie is just Bisto chip shop curry sauce dissolved in boiling water with leftover roast chicken added. Pour into pie bowl, add puff pastry lid and half an hour in the oven

Pie has been much discussed on PH.
It was decreed that pie is only pie if it is fully encased in pastry.
Shortcrust, puff or hot water crust pastry are all acceptable.
Ceramic/glass stew dishes are not.
Shepards, fish and cottage pie with mash lids are also not true pies
