The Real Ale thread
Discussion
Monday I am going to the saltaire brewery for their tour and a few beers.
Their chocolate ale was lovely last time I went http://www.saltairebrewery.co.uk/html/bottled_beer...
They also do draught beer but I have never been to a pub that serves them

Went on the Shepherd Neame tour last weekend. Always a lager/Guinness drinker, but came back with a selection to try. Had these the other night and really enjoyed them. Might try and not pick the lager at the bar tonight.

A friend gave us 3 bottles from Wood's brewery last night;
Shropshire Lass (my fave of the 3)
Shropshire Lad
Hopping Mad
Was reminded it's Swindon beer festival tomorrow at the Steam museum, may have to see if any tickets are left (but suspecting not.....)

I'd echo the above regarding Elsie Mo, supurb beer and on tap at the local here. Castle Rock brewery also so Harvest Pale, which won the Great British Beer Festival beer of the year 2010, a little weaker than the Elsie Mo but so balanced and refreshing.
Castle Rock have moved to a new, larger brewery so expect to see their beers about more often from now on.

Anyone who likes their Guiness tried the Bath Ales Dark Side stout yet?
I've not seen it before but was drinking it last night and really impressed. Lighter, livelier and less creamy/thick than guiness, which probably means I could drink a lot more of it without feeling bloated

Cracking trip to the brewery last night, I can definitely recommend their Crystal Red, which is a 4.4% heavyish beer. They also did an incredibly hoppy beer whose name I forget and their biggest seller, saltaire Blonde. £2 a pint in the brewery makes for a good night out.
I also bought some bottles to try later, their cascade pale ale, triple chocaholic and raspberry Blonde, I will give you a report when I have tried them.
They apparently sell a lot of beer through wetherspoons in the north and I would definitely recommend trying their beer if you see it.

Just been down to Lidl to stock up on one of my standards 8 masterbrew for £8 500ml too so its a proper pint for a quid . I got a Firkins worth !
erm, not really.A pint is 568ml, so you're "not really" getting a pint for £1...

Had two of these last night. They were superb. Had it on draught before but not bottled. Really great taste with a big hint of citrus.
You should also try Oakham Ales Citra, an intense beer for the strength. One of the first UK beers to use Citra hops, makes it like an American Pale Ale.illmonkey said:
