I fooking love black bottle.
Interesting drams tonight, Balvenie 21yo Portwood, 40% UK dram vs. 47.6% export strength.
Its been a long time since an order has gone in - and the collection is looking decidely sad for itself...
I put together a 'wish list' order with our usual Dutch supplier last week. Once I let the Mrs have a look to 'thin out' my chosen selection, I realised that the shopping cart had reached an eye watering 1700 euro
Funnily enough the order did not get the green light
Picked up a bottle of JW Black for 22 quid in Waitrose so having a large dram of that now. No need to add water and it tastes really good to my uneducated pallete, possibly a new favourite at this price point. Gutted I didn't buy a bottle of Double Black on the ferry a couple of weeks ago, my opinion of JW had previously been tainted by the muck that is JW Red so I've avoided the others since then.

Try the Green label, it's the best Red so I've avoided the others since
then.

Did you open the export Portwood? I'll be really interested to see whatg you think of it compared to the 40%
Oh, Wade, do you know if there was ever a bottle at 43%?

I'm like that, I stopped doing a wishlist years ago... Instead of buying a big wedge of bottles in one go I buy a few every week instead, doesn't seem quite so expensive that way. And the wife/family get a list of bottles I want at Christmas and Birthday too
Black Bottle is a funny one, I absolutely love it. I've come to the conclusio though that I actually like grain whisky which many people don't and that puts them off blends.

I don't have a bottle of red actually, must pick one up... Have you tried Green and Gold? Or Blue for that matter? Blue divides people, many love it and it's hugely popular in the US but I don't reckon it's worth the eye-watering price. Not bad whisky, at £50 it would great VFM. At £130, it's certainly not.Lefty said:

The biggest problem for us is buying anything vaguely 'different' means ordering and paying shipping - hence trying to do it in 1 hit. I'm like that, I stopped doing a wishlist years ago... If I had the availability of a decent supplier on my doorstep, not only would I be considerably poorer, but I would have an even unhealthier liver!
But a foookin great smile on me face...

Haven't tried the others but will probably pick up a bottle of green next week and keep an eye open for the other when in a hotel bar next time. I've finished a few bottles recently and not bought much so there's space in the cupboard for some new additions?Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
