My wife is convinced if a product says use by 12th January, (To day), it will suddenly goes off at the stoke of midnight.

She ditched 2 pints of milk the other day, only 1 day past use by date, and wouldnt touch the pork pies with 6 days past on them, didn't do me any harm.

We didn's used to have all this crap when I were a lad. rolleyes and we couldn't afford to ditch food either.

A friend of mine happily consumed a Pot Noodle over the New Year (admittedly pissed) that was 2 years passed its use by date. No ill effects.
In order to putrify it has to have some sort of nutritional content...
I've used powdered milk ten years past it's sell by date with no ill effects.

Of course - obviously I was being facetious about Pot Noodles but it is true that dry stuff lasts for a very long time if it's kept dry. I have had some of those Oriental soup/noodles that you can buy from Chinese supermarkets, the ones you boil up in water and add a satchet of soup base, and they went off after only a year over time stated. Dry is not always dead safe.

I understand why it's done, but the "expiry" dates on mineral water bottles always make me chuckle.

I like the water in bottles from a 10,000 year old glacia, use within 2 days of opening WTF!

TBH, I don't know why folk BUY water, mine comes out of a thing called a TAP.

Its like a fashion statement, some folk, usually women, walk down the road water bottle in hand, having the odd swig now and again.

Get back to reality FFS.

well wish me luck - just been clearing out MiL's cupboard today and have found some 'rather old' cereals which are, as yet, unopened. I do feel in the interests of... well... idle curiosity I guess that some of these need to be tried out to see just how bad they can be....

I've had a few tins of 2017-dated Rice Pudding recently, without any effects at all.

Anyone seen 'Ashens' YouTube channel where he regularly eats stuff that's well out of date? Also featured whole chicken in a tin :0

Nuts will most likely be rancid, but cereals should be ok.

So long as there aren't weevils in, convert to flapjacks / crispie cakes / bird food.

well I gave them a try...

Cornflakes (2007) - perfectly edible, still quite crisp, but a little like chewing paper tastewise
Cheerios (2017) - stale

I guess if you were hungry both the above 2 would fill you up, how much actual sustenance they'd provide is open to debate...

Jordans fruit - had already been opened so that got binned

not tried t'other Jordans or the oats yet
