Cover versions which are better than the original

Must admit i never realized that The ballad of Lucy Jordan by Marianne Faithful was a cover until today and i have been listening to that for decades.I heard a cover by Nicki Gillis today which was very good but a bit to polished.To my mind the Marianne Faithful version has the edge because of its rough edges.

Except Dave Lee Roth is not playing blues...
Eric Burdon played other versions of Tobacco Road but they are not a patch on this blues interpretation imho. But it's just a matter of taste

Nicely performed, but an almost exact facsimile of the original, isn't it?

Good but the 'F1 part' just wasn't strong or loud enough for me, that's the bit you really want to blast out.

And good isn't better than the original either.

She has a great voice, but it's wasted on that song. That's a great song too but her voice just doesn't do it justice.
