What do you make of it? It seems a return to more mellow and less formulaic music than the last album, but IMO nowhere near as good as Tri-State and Oceanlab era stuff. The first stuff was authentic, and heartfelt, then they went very commercial, and now maybe have gone back too far the other way? I cant think of anything on there which will be played or remembered in 10 years time, which is a real shame.
Above and Beyond - Alone Tonight (from Tri-State, 2006)

The song that got me into Above & Beyond, 'Good for Me' (from Tri-State) was part of a bootleg mix I downloaded around the time my Mrs was pregnant, the lyrics of Good for Me really struck me and through that song I then bought 'Group Therapy', 'We Are All We Need' and now 'Common Ground'. There isn't as many stand-out tracks for me on Common Ground, Naked with Justine Suissa and Happiness Amplified with Richard Bedford are probably the best two for me,
I think what I like best about Above & Beyond is their choice of singers on their tracks, they've all got really strong voices, especially Zoe Johnson and Alex Vargas. 'Sink The Lighthouse' is probably by 2nd favourite A&B track behind Good For Me.
Common Ground seems to me to be more of the same, following on from Group Therapy and We Are All We Need.

I was bang into pretty much all the big beat Skint label stuff 'back in the day', they were a good bunch to deal with as well, would always personally reply to emails enquiring about new releases or merchandise etc.
I still listen to the likes of Midfield General, Bentley Rhythm Ace, Space Raiders etc.

You've not really answered the question. There isn't as many stand-out tracks for me on Common Ground, Naked with Justine Suissa and Happiness Amplified with Richard Bedford are probably the best two for me,

'Real Life' by Magazine. Released in 1978, Wikipedia classes it as 'post-punk'. It's a great album though I admit I'm not familiar with the rest of Magazine's discography. If anyone has recommendations for other songs by the band, or other bands from that period in the late 1970s, I am all ears. Truly.

Good man - lo-fidelity allstars, Propellerheads and Slacker too
Digging Hajk at the moment. The album's rubbish but this is a well crafted, well executed pop song & well crafted, well executed pop songs are alright with me.
