Was watching something on News 24 and they played some news clips with music overlaid from the era.

Have to chip in with London Calling by The Clash after doing so.

Stargazer by Rainbow would be my choice rather than Tarot Woman

edit:although it does remind one just how good Rainbow Rising is as an album!

"Had me a real good time" by The Faces always does it for me smile

"Church of the broken hearted" by SilverGinger5 is a close second.

Some obscure 80s minor hits in there - nice; A Flock Of Seagulls especially.

Oh and what about "Dancing Queen" by the Abbas? That's very evocative and instantly recognisable. How does it go now?

Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer

Roachford - Cuddly Toy

Prince - When Doves Cry

Ok, so maybe you don't hear them on the radio very often.

First one is NSFW.

Carter USM - Surfin' USM

Moonspell - Trebaruna

Enslaved - Loke

Satyricon - Dawn of a New Age

..I won't go on :-)

I'll give up a half dozen for consideration:-

"Tainted Love" Soft Cell

"Orgone Accumulator" Hawkwind

"Liberator" Spear Of Destiny

" Are 'Friends' Electric? Tubeway Army

" Heartbeat" The Psychedelic Furs

"She Sells Sanctuary" The Cult

Some great picks on here already, especially the "Johnny Was" shout. I will be loading Inflammable Material into the multi-changer very soon. God, I'd almost forgotten how brilliant that one was, so thanks.

Sorry, forgot to add I'm too rubbish to add links...sorry.

Also, wasn't Johnny Was actually a Rita Marley composition? Not that it matters...

Totally agree!! Ashamed I overlooked it. Song was so short amd brilliant, the intro almost gets forgotten, thanks for the reminder.

If you love it as much as me never listen to the Blink 182 cover...it's dismal. Pop songs should be short, by the way, see my Beverley Kills link on the 'Song you are listening to today' thread.

Heard this on the radio the other day ZZ Top "Viva Las Vegas". Fortunately the DJ didn't crash the intro as it's a cracker.

Great intro by the late great Cozy Powell.

Couple of other selections I don't think have been mentioned:

Talking Heads - Psycho Killer
Roxy Music - Street Life
