Mumford & Sons: Whats the Fuss?

First of all, i love Mumford & Sons...
if they're second album is half as good as their first, it will be a winner!
But why has everyone gone mad for them all of a sudden?
Two years ago they did a sell out theatre tour but hardly set the world alight from any live shows that i seen on TV, etc...
This week they've sold out every stadium in the country because of a single which sounds exactly liek their old stuff...
Just confused why the public flock to groups like this and overlook other gems which offer a better live show experience imho?!

They're utter bilge IMO, as bad as The Levellers.
However, there's no accounting for taste and since the first album was v popular, there's been a wait for the second and anticipation has built.

I don't like them at all, but the answer to your question is probably that live music is very big business at the moment and you don't have to be a major name to sell out big venues any more. A few years ago I saw the Courteeners as a support act in the Apollo, these days they sell out the arenas even though their biggest hit made the heights of number 19, 5 years ago.
They have broad appeal, indie, folk, pop.... I like music so cant help liking them, they are very good at what they do, I have never brought any of there music but did see them play a gig in spain and was blown away!! one of the best knees up I've had at a festival ,,, all my mates with various taste all thought they were the highlight of the festval...

Apologies for being a miserable sod earlier, i stand by it but it wasn't what the OP was asking.
To echo what's been said, they've been putting in a LOT of hours touring the US, and it's paid off. By all accounts they're up there, or not far off, with coldplay in America in terms of being a draw.

Their first album was MASSIVE - What you talking about, saying they've only just gotten big recently!? I was working for HMV when it came out and it was flying out so fast the guys on the shop floor couldn't restock the shelves quick enough!
I didn't mind that first album... It took what would oridinarily be Indie-Folk for D*ckheads (for the record, D*ickhead is now a recognised term for the sort of person who normally listens to said music. My mate Alec is a D*ickhead, for example, but I don't think he's a d*ck head) and made it even more self-loathing and a bit angry, even borderline drunk-sounding (basically, is sounded alot like my mate Alec). It had a bit of bite to it, which was good... But it did get old VERY quickly IMO. I'm not sure if I'd bother with the new album.

This is it really, trendy-wendy students will jump onto the latest hipster bandwagon, based on whoever is on the cover on NME or whatever bogroll publication they happen to read. Kings of Leon were no different, talent and ability are not important, all that matters is getting seen in the right places to get the kids hooked on. Mumford and Sons are utter dross, but that has not hindered any of the bands that went before, or that will come after them.There is no fuss, they are a mediocre ballad band so beloved of Cowell and that Irish prick, safe, predictable teeny pop which is being pushed by their promoters to generate a frenzy of pre-pubescent hysteria and thusly sales. If you look at the charts or whatever it's called or listen to any of the 'music' radio channels you'll find it saturated with the stuff, that and rap/hiphop which is about as fresh as Last of the Summer Wine....but the kids have been told they love it, so they do
