Nile Rogers' work as a producer has resulted in some pretty decent tunes too (not even mentioning his amazing stuff with Chic)

Let's Dance - David Bowie
Like a Virgin - Madonna
Love Shack - The B52s
Upside Down - Diana Ross
The Reflex - Duran Duran

and many more

It has to be the Friends theme tune by the Rembrandts https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q-9kPks0IfE

not only is it a great catchy pop tune, it also must be one of the most widely known songs in the world. Also The Rembrandts were a complete one hit wonder if memory serves me right.

Just heard the greatest record ever produced this morning - it is nearly 35 years old! Still feel great when it is played.

I would say Rio - Duran Duran.

Slick production, high quality almost HD video. Superb split screening as seen in a lot of 80s videos. (overuse and lovely demonstration of the Quantel paintbox era). Plus it has the classic solo Sax player. What more could you ask for?

This really screams the 1980s and for me the best Pop record of its time. Billy Jean coming a close second.

Others try too hard for instance November Rain although a classic just comes out like a pile of cheese.

How anyone can not mention 'Pop' and 'Erasure' in the same sentence is beyond me.

But my award would go to 'Rio'. In every sense of the debate it's just perfection.

Tricky one, given the debate about what constitutes "pop". I'd suggest Kylie "Can't get you out of my head" has to be up there.

"Happy" by Pharrell Williams is my vote.

I've rarely heard a catchier 'ditty'.

Chris Difford once said Labelled With Love was basically a Country record.

Chris (who has slight stutter) described it as such to Kid Jenson live on Radio 1, except he stuttered over the first and second syllables of country! Probably the only man to say CU Next Tuesday 3 times in quick succession on the BBC!

I was trying to come up with an example of a bit of pop that a very large number of people instantly connect with.

"In west Philadelphia, born and raised...."

I immediately though 'Club Tropicana' but then decided on 'A Little Respect' by Erasure.

It's explicitly country from the first bar, to be fair!

'Good Vibrations' is spectacular.

"She Loves You" was revolutionary for its time.

This bloke explains it better than I can:
