Gig Plans - 2017
Discussion
3 gigs in 6 days last week... Prophets of Rage, Nothing But Thieves and Royal Blood.
POR was bouncy and sweaty they’ll never match the aggression of Zack in RATM, but great to hear great tunes live. Good crowd too.
NBT have grown into an accomplished act. Quite a difference from the act I saw a few years ago as a support band covering Led Zep tunes.
RB have also shifted leagues. 1100 at Electric Ballroom two years ago to 13000 at Birmingham Arena.
Sadly, The Last Internationale got pulled so no gig tomorrow Incredibly disappointed, as they were truly amazing live a few years ago. So good, I bought the album during the second song.
I guess that’ll be me done for 2017.
Looking forward to a few new albums dropping next year, and hopefully tours to follow.

You've no idea how gutted I was to miss out on Prophets. I am watching for their next gig release!
Did you see the French stream?https://youtu.be/x0URkXEbbvU
Deep Purple at the O2 Arena last night, with Europe supporting.
What an excellent band. As you'd expect for a band that have been going for nearly 50 yrs (although apparently several line-up changes), they were pretty polished. What I didn't expect was a 72 yr-old Ian Gillan to be able to sing like that, nor that they'd all be up for putting on a great show!
Still not sure about the keyboard solos though...

Just on my way home from Depeche Mode at the O2 - a great night. Support act were dire though, some Chinese group called Re-TROS.
Unfortunately congestion at North Greenwich station meant we missed the last train to Manningtree! Currently en route to Colchester and will have to get a taxi to pick my car up...

Iwas also a bit unsure about the support,we were close to the front so I could see what they were doing which was pretty impressive with samplers and loops etc but still a bit odd!
The underground situation was a nightmare afterwards, took us an hour to get from the o2 to our hotel next to the excel. We came over the water to the gig in the cable car which took minutes and was cheaper.

Podie - did Prophets of rage live up to expectations ? Been meaning to see Tom Morello for years and the YT stuff loks awesome...
Saw them twice this year - both with Matt172 (think that’s his login )First one was more of a surprise as the second followed the same format, but with some more PoR material added in. Interestingly, first time (Brixton) was about half the price.
You’re never going to replace Zack de la Rocha on an RATM track, but they make a better job of it live than I expected. I enjoyed both, and if they hit the UK next year i’ll probably go a third time.
If you accept it’s not RATM and enjoy it for what it is (the odd Public Enemy and Cypress Hill track feature too) then yeah, go for it.
I’d still kill to see RATM back together, but other than that 4500 people shouting “motherfker” at the end of Killing in the Name is strangely entertaining.

The tube was chaos - mainly because of people ignoring the PA message to not tap in at the gates and slowing the flow down. Although it did mean we got a free journey back to Stratford.

I went to a gig at the O2 once.
It would need to be something remarkable for me to repeat the experience.
Yeah, I went to my first 'arena' gig in 35 years of enjoying live music at the Manchester Arena a couple of weeks ago. Better off watching it on TV (and I had a 'premium' position!)It would need to be something remarkable for me to repeat the experience.
