Wasn't there some statement when Moyles joined where he said words to the effect of "they've told me I can play anything, ANYTHING, I want"? Doesn't come across like that!
Yesterday morning Moyles was redeeming himself slightly when he mentioned the late great Chic drummer Tony Thompson, me thinking he will play one of them great Chic tracks recorded at the Power Station but no he decided to play that mid 80s awful cover of Get It On by The Power Station, not one of TT's or Robert Palmer's finest moments.

6music is one of the highlights of what's out there. One of the few stations where the DJs get to decide what gets played. And I've made some wonderful discoveries through it because of that. Roddy Hart's show on Radio Scotland (catch in iPlayer kids) is the only other similar thing I've found.

The downside of this is that some DJs just have fundamentally different taste to me, so I skip their output. But isn't it wonderful that we can still find these little islands of diversity. What would you rather have; that every station churns out the same manufactured pap endlessly? Be careful what you wish for...

Lets be honest none of them crappy indie bands will ever crack America, the only place they seem popular is Northern England.
Whilst we're here, might we ask what music you're into?
Aja - Steely Dan, Pirates - Rickie Lee Jones, Donald Fagan - The Nightfly, Court And Spark - Joni Mitchell, American Stars N Bars - Neil Young etc, etc,
6Music have played Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young all within the last couple of weeks, and I listen for only about two hours per day on average...

6 Music is great. I'll have it on at work til 4 then I switch over to RadioX for Johnny Vaughan. The music on 6 far outweighs the 5th Form Indie disco ste on RadioX but I think Jonny Vaughan is a funny broadcaster & he genuinely makes me laugh. Radcliffe & Maconie on 6 also have their moments (Fat Harry White even made a comeback on Valentines Day)

Too much Foo Fighters, Catfish, Chilli Plonkers, Noel Gallagher on RadioX. They even had Ocean Colour Scene on the other day & the radio nearly got destroyed, that said Vaughan's daft chat makes up for it. 6music is much more eclectic & their output has switched me onto many a new band or artist.

Yes, I have Christian O'Connell on Absolute in the mornings, 6 Music if I'm listening in the day and then Vaughan on Radio X on the way home. I'm quite into indie stuff, but I'd be the first to admit that the Radio X playlist is too narrow - Biffy Clyro, Biffy Clyro, Biffy Clyro, Green Day, Biffy Clyro, Biffy Clyro etc...

6 music has a big range of stuff - almost too muso at times!

It's like Andy Kershaw is in charge of the playlist on BBC 6 Music, they seem to be trying to be too obscure for their own good.

I do love a bit of both 6 Music and Radio X, but I'm Britpop and Indie through and through. I loathed 6 at the outset because the Djs seemed so hipster it hurt, but they've struck a fine balance now, I've grown to like it.

I'm just happy that Radio 1 is vaguely listenable in the evenings again, now that Zane Lowe is talking to six people (three of those being his own ego) over on Beats One - a smugger, more up-himself tosspot has never graced the airwaves.

I was doing a bit of work with the chap who has BBC 6 music on and heard a Michael Mcdonald track on there so perhaps all is not lost, think the dj was Stuart Maconie.

Radio X is going backwards fast. The music selection used to be varied, but now it has become very repetitive and picking too much pop stuff.

They've also lost quite a few DJs and play out recorded shows at the weekend. Things can't be going too well for them.

Well Dave is leaving the Chris Moyles show, Vernon and Ricky Wilson have already gone. I only listen in for the Chris Moyles show these days, the rest is piss poor and Johnny Yawn just doesn't do it for me at all.

6 Music's output is hugely varied. I recently discovered Max Richter through them (and he is more "classical" than pop). Here's six tracks in the order they were played on Rad/Mac last week as an example:

The O’Jays, For The Love Of Money

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Spread Your Love

Spizzenergi, Where's Captain Kirk?

Thundercat, Show You The Way (feat. Michael McDonald & Kenny Loggins)

Slug, Cockeyed Rabbit Wrapped In Plastic

Run‐D.M.C. & Aerosmith, Walk This Way

RX is just lazy indie/rock and I cannot listen to Moyles without wanting to reach down the radio and ram an old sock in his gob. Tawt (anag.)

I think Radio X has signed some agreement with the Gallagher brothers to promote them as much as possible.

Every other song is by a bloody Gallagher.I would love their PRS cheque from Radio X
Apart from Moyles & Vaughny, I have switched to Absolute Classic Rock.

When I first discovered XFM in 1999 it was rocking, then got progressively more bland, so I switched to Kerrang! which was loads better. Then Bauer Media got hold of Kerrang! and over night it was turned into another bland radio station.

When XFM got rebranded into Radio X it got off to a good start, but is now the same as when XFM finished. Most of the music R6 and RX play is technically very good, but dull and boring. I've no doubt that muso's sit there marvelling about the musicianship, but most of what they are playing is pretentious bks.

Radio 6 can really grind my gears but it does have some great shows too.

FIP radio is also really good.

Never listen to Radio X
