For me, this. Not just the album, but the feeling it was a vessel for the times it ushered in. A feeling of renewal, creativity. New music, new drugs, new optimism and a new decade-ish. It represents for me the start of a whole cultural renewal in Britain, a heady period of music & wider art that defined a generation & I love it for that.

Any band that can release Where Angels Play, Mersey Paradise, Standing Here & All Across the Sands as B-sides gets my vote.
Ridiculously talented.
bow
PS I Love You
Thank You Girl
I Saw Her Standing There
This Boy
You Can't Do That
If I Fell
Day Tripper
Eleanor Rigby
I Am The Walrus
Strawberry Fields Forever
Revolution
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Not a bad selection of B sides from a certain band from Liverpool smile

While I'm here, a second go from me:

Captain Beefheart - Troutmask Replica

The Dylan Trilogy 'Bringing it all Back Home', Highway 61 Revisited' and 'Blonde on Blonde' there are three, but untouchable I would say.

Sunday Times Culture section, this week. '100 Albums to Love'. Some interesting choices, Best Album? 'Sgt. Pepper'.

Definitely one of the best records ever! Last year I saw them play the whole album live at the London Forum!

As stated earlier, 'Sgt Pepper' was the fave album in the Sunday Times list.
June 1st is the 50th anniversary of it's release.

I've read that 'Strawberry Fields' and 'Penny Lane' were due to be on the album but due to pressure for a new single they were dropped.

What two tracks could have been dropped to make room? My choice, ' Within you and Without you', 'When I'm 64'.

They could have got rid of A Day In The Life and included an early take of Obla Dee Obla Dar as well as Strawberry and Penny Lane

I listened to Dark Side of the Moon while driving home from London yesterday. That album takes a lot of beating.

Before I see your answer I thought it's gonna be Straight Shooter or Desolation Angels with your name.

As usual the media miss the real gem in the Beatles oeuvre, Revolver.

In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.

This reminds me of another album ahead of it's time:-

Clearly not "the best album ever", but a very important one that defined 1980's metal despite being released in 1978.
