Also saw Kiss a couple of weeks ago for the first time since 1988. More about the show than the music but I really enjoyed it. Paul Stanley's voice is definitely shot now.
I saw Kiss in about 1986/87 at the NEC. I was blown away, no make up or really much of a stage show, but I have never seen a band work so hard.

I have seen some footage of their recent shows and indeed, Paul Stanley’s voice is totally gone. I feel that flogging it now is a mistake and damaging their legacy. They do theme cruises on seedy Carnival cruise ships, I mean, seriously, they can’t need to do this for more money, can they?

You say that but I see a lot of top acts doing this now especially in the States, might breathe new life into seeing them by having a venue on a cruise ship rather than going through the motions at the usual venues.
I really am beginning to sound old,lol

I saw th Who at the Saville theatre in 1967. Supported by Vanilla Fudge and Episode Six. I was at Charlton for what was, at the time, the loudest gig ever, and saw them again just after Daltrey got over his meningitis. I'd go tomorrow and the next day ad infinitum if I could.

Great great band.

Wow, how could I forget UFO; first seen '79, last seen 2013 (and still very good). And related to that, Michael Schenker; 1st 1983, last 2015. .
It's always amazed me that UFO weren't bigger. I'd forgotten Schenker as well. Scorpions first then Schenker decades later at Holmfirth. Brilliant venue and MS had such enthusiasm. Here's another: Wishbone Ash.

In the last week, saw Rainbow at the Hydro in Glasgow. A bit of a shadow of what they used to be - I saw them in 1977 (Aberdeen Capitol) with Ronnie James Dio/Cozy Powell, fantastic gig. (A few days after the Munich DVD gig).

Ritchie Blackmore just appeared to play the same non-fast solo to every song this time round - Child In Time was a bit of a disappointment - compared to Made In Japan - but not really that surprising... And a bit amateur stage presence - they messed the ending to one song, completely lost another where the singer didn't come back in after the solo, and no real screen projection - looked like somebody had spent £20 on a stock effects DVD.

And last night saw Blue Oyster Cult at the O2 in Glasgow - not seen them before, but listened to them for 40 years... Don't Fear The Reaper live was superb.

Saw Rush in 1979, and then again on the R30 tour - although they've now done the R40 tour...

And saw Wakeman/Anderson/Rabin earlier this year, with a really great set.

So getting old doesn't mean they're losing it totally... depends on the musicians.

Me too, I went to the first or second Glastonbury to see my heroes Hawkwind.
My Hawkwind story, - I went to boarding school with, and am still in contact with Dave's son (Pascoe), one weekend whilst at school I get invited to spend a weekend at Pascoe's house in Devon, I would have been around 12 at the time and had no real idea who Hawkwind were, so the following morning sat eating a bowl of rice krispies in the kitchen when in walks Lemmy! Fag in mouth jack & coke in hand, looks over at us and simply says "morning you little fkers" and strolls out, I'm gob smacked Pascoe just turns around and says "yeah he used to be in the old mans band" - Despite being kicked out the band, Lemmy & Dave remained pretty close, and I believe Lemmy is on record stating if he hadn't been kicked out he would probably still have been in Hawkwind

Dave is one of the nicest and polite people you'll ever meet, if a little 'out there' but always good for a story and a chat.

Nice story, I remember seeing them once when the guy on guitar who must have been so out of it fell backwards against the amps that in turn fell on him, he only briefly stopped playing, getting back up he carried on playing that's dedication for you. Saw them at Stonehenge too before things got ugly, they must be one of the busiest live bands in the UK as they seemed at one time to be playing everywhere.

Saw Hawkwind (when they were badged as Hawklords for contractual reasons - some schism or other) in about 1980.

Saw them again two or three years ago, still very good - I think they were just about finishing a track they started playing in1980...

Anyone seen a band 30+ years ago and seen them recently?
Not 30+ but the first time I saw Jean-Michel Jarre was in 1993 and the most recent in 2016.

I've seen Level 42 many times over the years, from the days of Wembley Arena back in the 80's, right up to Car Fest a couple of years ago, with all sorts of venues in between,
Also saw Alexander Oneal's granddad in Greenwich on Tuesday night... at least it looked like it smile

I'm up late (again)... Seen so many great groups since the mid 60s (age? it's all in the mind!). Was camped on the hill in 1970 at the Isle of Wight Festival - estimates up to 700,000 people never to happen again (it didn't, thanks to politicians - the don't like freedom for the people!), Free, Moody Blues, Hendrix (he was dead in 2 weeks), Doors, etc. Great memories. And to think the first two days were free and my ticket for the weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) was just 3 quid. Today's inflated prices show how much it has changed.

Anyway, move on a tad to 1980, March, at Oxford Polytechnic and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers do a gig there on their UK tour.
Move on 37 years to tomorrow (today!) and can't wait, probably why I'm still awake... Hyde Park. Love the band. To think they've been going for over 40 years (40th anniversary tour) is incredible. Pensioners - well most of them were born same year as me - who make one incredible sound, especially Mike Campbell still one of my favourite guitarists (I have many).

Saw loads of punk bands in the 70s that I've seen in recent years.

In terms of price, Kate Bush ticket in 1979 was £2.50, but i paid 75p to get it off someone who couldn't go last minute. Paid £125 to see her last year. She was better first time round.
