I'd go with autotune and EZDrummer/guitar editing software. The amount of metal where the musicians can't play there own music because it's so heavily edited is ridiculous, guitar on Haarp Machine is a perfect example.

Those saying Rap isn't music make me laugh, seeing as early rap used loads of samples especially beats from funk and soul. Some of it is trash I'll grant you but there are some greats, the same in any genre there's good and bad. The only genre I properly dislike is Punk but I can appreciate there are some good bands in the genre.

I must say I agree with this. Trying to turn music into a 'competition' is just so fundamentally wrong. Music is NOT a competition, and what happens when it is turned into one is it becomes unmusical, because the singers have to try to get a reaction as fast as possible. So they treat it like some sort of Olympic event, trying to get all of their notes and range into a few seconds, with musical train-wreck results.

How I love to hear some Nat King Cole and Karen Carpenter. Real musicians, nothing to prove, just singing the melody, beautifully.

I'd go with rap. Either sing properly or shut up. Preferably shut up.

Or as Frank Zappa said, shut up and play your guitar.

But rap is just the tip of a very big iceberg. Let's be honest, the vast majority of pop music isn't music. It's not supposed to be. It's just something designed to make as much money as possible, as quickly as possible before the public forgets you and replaces you in their affections with the next big thing. Artistic merit is simply a by-product - and a very rare one at that.

Actually, it was someone in the audience yelling at Zappa.

Frank was busy rapping, like this:

That was unexpected. I thought it would be more popular rap.

I'd not come across the phrase 'trucker's gear change' before and had to google it. My god yes, I've hated that bloody thing for years.

Worst. Cliche. Ever.

Most pop music is based around 4 chords, I, IV,V and VI. The first three originate from the blues the other is the relative minor. There are hundred of songs based on these even in the same order.

Sadly a lot of contemporary music doesn't even use all 4, some just one.
The truck drivers gear change allows you to literally go up a gear. Some modulations work well but some are awful.

Actually a lot of music is based around I IV V and relative minor as with those chords every note on the major scale is covered by at least one chord and in some cases two.

That was how Bon Jovi made an entire career out of it.
