One no doubt unfashionable nomination; Peter Gabriel - Secret World. Has the best version of Sledgehammer on it.
Agreed. Still one of my favourites (i can remember watching it on TV with my Dad), i think i've sinced owned it on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray (pic quality unfortunately not great).Another left field one from me - Leonard Cohen - Live in London (With Sharon Robinson and The Webb Sisters)

Born Slippy just goes on for ever, in a good way, and King of Snake just builds and builds until the base comes in.
I swear to god, track 1 is the only tune ever to really get me to drive as if my pubes are on fire.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_sqSlMpBBk&li...

Mid '98, hired Clio, Rez on the CD player full blast, foot through the floor on the A1(M), only time in my life I've maxed both car & stereo at the same time
My favourite live album is a bootleg (I think) double Hendrix LP bought from a mate for £5 in 1985. Disc 1 has a phenomenal version of Red House but it's side 2 that I played to death & still do: Stone Free & Are you experienced - it's incredible to think this was recorded in the late 60's, the man was quite obviously a guitar genius.

An unofficial rip of the video isn't really a "great live album" if I'm being pedantic, not sure Bob will be seeing any royalties from this!! Maybe we need a new thread entitled great bootleg albums...wal 45 said:

fair enough. Talk Talk at Montreux isn't an album either. Still two of the best recorded live events I can recall.
Absolutely agree, really wish I'd seen Talk Talk while they were still playing live but think I've missed my chance. Can't honestly see Mark Hollis reforming Talk Talk unfortunately.geezerbutler said:
Marillion - La Gazza Ladra. The playthrough of Misplaced Childhood album is better than the studio version
I remember buying that on a double CD when it first came out, and being quite disappointed that there were gaps between tracks where the crowd sounds were faded out and back. For me, the point of a live album is to be able to play and imagine you're at the gig, and it ruined it.Now, the earlier Radio 1 FM broadcast where they played perhaps all of one side of that same album, but (I think) before it was released and with some different lyrics, was much better IMO. I've still got a tape of it somewhere, but no idea if it works any more.
The first album I'll ever own up to buying remains a favourite live album of mine - The Stranglers, Live (X-Cert), bought from the bargain bin at my local Woolworths. It's a bit rough and ready, the sound quality is a bit lacking in places, and it's mixed together from several gigs, but it still gets played from time to time.
