Forgot all about this thread...

Popped over to Utrecht last week to see the Human League. Managed both to grab the set list from the stage and get Phil, Susan and Joanne to sign it!

That answers a question I had - I wondered if they played Hard Times/Love Action back to back live, as it was on the 12".

Seems they don't... Would make a great encore!

Seen them before - they're excellent.

  • Slayer
  • Lamb of God
  • Anthrax

I saw King Crimson last night at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham.

Was a superb gig, that really showcased their musical virtuosity, with some classic numbers being given a full modern-day reworking with their current 8-piece lineup.

Caught them about 3 years ago in Cardiff when they were touring as a 7-piece. The current line up sees them still with the 3 drummers, but with Bill Rieflin moving to full-time keyboard duties and Jeremy Stacey as the 3rd Drummer / and keys. Gives them a far more richer and fuller sound (IMHO).

What was interesting was the number of signs up asking the audience not to take photos (with phones) during the concert itself, and that they would allow the chance once it was all done-and-dusted.
From where i was, it looks as if most people went along with that (i think i only saw one person being given a ticking-off by one of the stewards!).

I like the Symphony Hall - i think its a good venue that gives a cozy feel (for what is a big open space) and provides good view and acoustics from most seats.
It wasn't a full house. Ticket prices were quite steep (£70+) and what with it being a school-night too.

Good gig though smile

Great acoustics. Never experienced it put to that sort of use though.

Now that should be an extremely good concert. Enjoy!

Slayer were sublime last night. I can fully appreciate why, when they and I were 30 years younger and had a bit more fight in us, I was so hooked by them. You sometimes think memory and nostalgia tricks you, but not in this case.

Well, November is going to be a busy one... hehe

12 Nov - Greta van Fleet (London)
14 Nov - Greta van Fleet (Brum)
22 Nov - The Last Internationale (London)
24 Nov - Nothing But Thieves (Brum)
29 Nov - Mudhoney (London)
30 Nov - Black Mirrors (London)

Yes, GvF twice in 3 days... sometimes it's hard to say no to tickets...
I once saw Gary Moore at the Hammersmith Odeon on three consecutive nights, R&R the first night, blues the second and a mix of both on the third... :-)

With a bit of luck I'll get some guest list tickets for this for the SBE date. Should be amazing.

Also got guest list/backstage tickets for the Groove Armada 21 gig at the Electric in Dec. Will be having a beer with the tall man.

The Prodigy in Nottingham, in 20 hours or so. I'm sure it will be decent but I'm not exactly looking forward to it.
What were they like these days?
The Prodigy were (still) very good live - but the setlist wasn't ideal for me; or I expect many attendees. However, it's an 'album' tour, so no surprises that they played quite a few of their new songs. It's a shame that their more recent output isn't quite upto their 90's work.

I genuinely hope they are better than last time I saw them (post Peter Hook) not particularly a fan of Alexandra Palace as a venue either. Seen them a few times before but after the last experience I swore never again. Hopefully they'll pull it off though and its a good gig.

Few recent gigs for me:

Suede at Hammersmith, one of the best gigs I've been to for a long time and they were absolutely brilliant. Probably helps the new music is so strong as well
Jon Hopkins at Brixton, waited a while to see him and he didn't disappoint. Very very impressed.
Saxon at Portsmouth, total nostalgia trip taking me back to 1982 and my first gig in same venue. First metal gig since 1985, quite enjoyed it actually

Upcoming gigs

Blancmange at Southampton, always good live and really like all the new music so won't be a nostalgia fest
Pete Murphy and David J at Brixton, Bauhaus are one of the few bands left I want to see that I've missed so looking forward to seeing half of them at last
The Good The Bad and The Queen, best of all Damon's side projects to my mind and seeing them on South Parade Pier in 2007 was a highlight of my gig going over the years.
Pete Tong at O2, wife wanted to go. I'm sure it'll be very good

Quite a few starting to drop in for 2019 already as well.

Ended up going to see Therapy? in Cardiff last night, and they didn't disappoint - hadn't seen them live since '95 until I was them again last year.

Just a shame the London date clashes with something else, or I probably would have gone along to that one. Looking forward to seeing The Last Internationale the same night,,

Had a bit of culture yesterday... Birmingham symphony orchestra and Birmingham choir performing some popular classical music at the symphony hall.

It may not have been a “gig” as such, but epic performances.

Normal service resumes tomorrow...

Was it the Cathedral Choir? I saw Birmingham Symphony Orchestra years ago at Symphony Hall performing Beethoven’s Ninth with the Birmingham Cathedral Choir and it was spine tingling, a stand out performance.
