What happened to people who bought tickets for Michael Jackson, before he died? I assume they got their money back?

Gary Numan and the Skaparis Orchestra Birmingham Symphony Hall 13 November; can’t wait biggrin
Tickets arrived today, massively looking forward to this; Numan; Symphony Hall; one of only six concerts with an orchestra; once in a lifetime stuffbiggrin
Now that should be an extremely good concert. Enjoy!
With a bit of luck I'll get some guest list tickets for this for the SBE date. Should be amazing.

Also got guest list/backstage tickets for the Groove Armada 21 gig at the Electric in Dec. Will be having a beer with the tall man.
What can I say? Utterly brilliant show in a sold out premium venue. GN has tweeted it was one of his best ever nights biggrin The Skaparis Orchestra were fantastic. Magnifico clap

Ah that's interesting. During the week I was looking at some clips of this set of gigs on Youtube and TBH it put me off going completely. I saw him at Brixton last October (had VIP tickets via an industry contact and actually met him and Gemma after the show) and on the balance of the YT clips I'd say Brixton was better. The recent ones looked like a subset of the full 2017 set list, still with all the band, and with the orchestra behind and not really very much in evidence. Also the lighting rig looked less than it was at Brixton. I was kinda expecting him to be singing his songs to an orchestral accompaniment but they very much looked like backing players. Did you see any of the 2017 gigs for comparison?

Think I should have got tickets for the RAH or Shepherd's Bush for this, wasn't sure it would work so didn't bother to be honest but it appears it did. Thought it might just be a case of jumping on the recent bandwagon of doing the "orchestral thing" and really couldn't see how it would compliment his post 2000 output. Pretty sure though "Films","Metal" and "DITP" must have sounded absolutely awesome with an orchestra.

Great to see him back to the level of success he deserves.
You might still get RAH tickets if you're not fussy where you sit/not a big group, but have a snoop round YT and see what you think. Like you, some of those tracks you mention would be awesome if there was an orchestra playing them rather than the regular band being the main musical accompaniment.

Definitely agree about the recognition bit.

Was quite big news in the insurance world at the Time.

The promoter refunded the punters then tried to claim on their insurance policy. The claim was denied and in the end they got reimbursed by Jackson's estate.

I didn’t (sadly) see the 2017 gigs but I understand the lighting was the largest rig (eight tons of it) for about thirty years. I get the sentiment about the orchestra being backing to the band but YT doesn’t convert the atmosphere (red hot) or the “warmth” the orchestra gave the sound, helped by Symphony Hall being as near as it can be to perfect acoustics.

I have the Brixton 2017 gig cd on order as the reviews are fantastic.

This was Broken.

Jonny Marr at the Sheffield Academy this week. What a legend. Great performance. Predictably amazing guitar playing but also a decent singer too, and a brilliant set-list including some Smiths and Electronic numbers.

It helps that he comes across as a thoroughly decent and likeable bloke, not a bitter and twisted old tt like his old band mate.

If anyone's got tickets to this tour I'm sure they won't be disappointed.

Seen him solo and with the smiths a few times and he is really something else.

One of the best events I have been to was when he was doing a book tour he did what I thought was going to be a dry interview on stage at the RNCM.

Not only was he a truly engaging interviewee he also brought some guitars and played some pieces solo. Breathtaking stuff.

The way he demonstrated how he wrote hand in glove was truly memorable.

I was at The Bridgewater Hall Show in Manchester Yesterday. Absolutely fantastic show. It's mainly the Savage Tour but with some Old favorites. We liked Chris Payne one of the Old "Tubeway Army" as the opener but Gary just ramped it up for the main gig. It was taped for Video so you can watch him get a bit too enthusiastic and fall over at one stage.!!

Rather than prematurely start a 'Gig Plans - 2020' thread - What about Elton John selling tickets for shows 2 years away? I might not be alive by then...
We were speaking about him all but 5 minutes ago in the office. Is he skint at the moment or something as he seems to be everywhere!
They've got pens!

It's his big 'farewell' tour... Why he needs to sell tickets so far in advance I have no idea.
I read somewhere he does about 200 shows per year (or used to) to fund his huge spending habits - presumably lots of these are PR / small private performances

I saw Teenage Fanclub (average audience age, about 50) in Brum on Saturday night, absolutely outstanding. They’re doing the next two nights at The Electric Ballroom, I’d go again if I could wing it but too busy with work.
Which albums did they perform on that night?

I was at the Grand Prix & SFNB gig at The Electric Ballroom and as you said, they were outstanding. One of my favourite bands playing two of my favourite albums (by anyone, not just TFC) was always going to be a cracker. I would have gone the following night too if Camden wasn't such a ballache for me to get home from.

It'll be interesting to see how things are in the future without Gerry.

Ultrasound and The Electric Soft Parade in a co-headline show coming up for me this Saturday.

went to see 'mumford and sons' on tuesday night in glasgow. pretty decent gig, seen them a few times now and they are always decent live. very good musicians, some catchy tunes and the mrs loves them.

however I do feel sorry for people that had tickets for some of the gigs that they've had to cancel. I think its basically because they've made a stage set up thats too complicated, so they cant strip, transport and set up at the next venue quick enough.

I know they are normally pretty swift in doing these things, but when we left, the crew were already standing waiting on the floor to go tearing down the stage. I've been to a lot of gigs and never seen so many people standing ready to go the second the gig finished.

My daughter and I went to see Christine and the Queens in Hammersmith last night.

Pretty enjoyable and impressed that she did part of her encore in the heart of the audience (not on a dais, but right on the floor with us with just a couple of security men).

We were rather surprised by the number of women, young and much older, in floods of tears after being near her... I thought that kind of hysteria died out with the Bay City Rollers! biggrin

I was also on the GP and SFNB night in Brum. I hope they’ll go on well without Gerry, TBH it was a bit cringey at the gig with lots of drunk grown men calling for him to stay. He’s been in the same job for 30yrs and just doesn’t fancy travelling the globe for a whole year for probably modest recompense, it’s not hard to grasp!

Some great videos on the Teenage Fanclub Fanclub page on Facebook if you’re not already a member.

I seem to remember tickets going for thousands. Its the one time I thought the sales may actually have been real considering it was supposed to be his last shows ever. I wonder how it worked out for all those people who bought second hand tickets for thousands.

The Last Internationale were as explosive as ever last night. Highly energentic performance (Edgey didn't stop bouncing) and Delila in fine vocal formm too - £6 well spent. They really are one of those bands that is best live... hoping they head back to the UK next year.

Ha! I didn't hear any of that going on at the Camden show. Agreed, I can appreciate him not wanting to be living out of a suitcase for months on end.

And yes, I've seen some of the videos (too many to watch them all!) on the Fanclub Fanclub page.
