Listening to In Flight last night which is absolutely an all time top ten album for me, forty years & still love it to death. However, I'm certain there's a bad note on the keyboards at 4:45 on the linked video, as the vocal says 'and for me'. You can look at it either way, I see it in the context of the repetition of the section as a definite error

I'm thinking of any other studio albums that had bum notes left in & can't come up with any, as opposed to live recordings where the players obviously only get one chance to nail it?

What bugs me about modern music is that it tries to be absolutely perfect and never a note wrong or a beat out of time. If we wanted music like that just get a computer to play it. I love things like the kick pedal squeak on 'Since I've been Loving You', I think it brings you closer to a real performance.

Down are one of the few bands that seem stand against it, their studio drum sound even sounds a bit like a real drum kit! That's most of why I prefer the early Orange Goblin albums, it sounds like it was recorded onto ADAT tapes through an analogue desk.

Banish the computer from the studio I say!

Horribly sharp bass... but playing the right notes at least.

Listen on my mobile so I might be missing something - just I think it's just a different setting of the same chord?

Yeah, you can argue it's intentional & I couldn't disagree with any real knowledge, just to me he hits the note once, there's a definite pause & then back to the main melodic thrust & when the bar repeats, it's played straight up, so that's my thoughts on it. If it was a bum note, it was in key, so he would have got away with one!

Listened with headphones.

Are we talking about the bass octaves played on the piano?

If so, there's a repeating phrase of 3 notes. The first two times are the same, then the second two times the 3rd "dum" of the arpeggio is brought down a tone - but the singer does the same.

I can't hear anything weird.

No, the straight piano played in groups of eight notes. On the word me, so: Don't you know/that it's true/and for ME.

There.

I see what you mean... But I think it's intentional.

Could be. The pause is the clincher for me. Good song though.

One of the little mix tracks has a massive reverb on a hi-hat that’s panned hard left. Bugs the bujeezus out of me when it comes on the car radio.

Odd '80s kids cartoon to sell a bear with a tape deck in it's back. Yes - the Teddy Ruxpin intro.

Not exactly a bum note on a studio album, but listen to the pitching on the word 'sky'

It's easy top get away with when you play live.

Hit a bum note once, it's a mistake - do it again at the right time, it's Jazz.

I was waiting for this rubbish trope to get trotted out.

My vote goes to anything that Steve Bailey played fretless bass on, ever.

No idea who that is but I'll guess the bass has more than four strings.

This. Live music means mistakes; I've always thought recorded music should be no different, so long as the mistakes are not detracting from the music in a major way.
