Weekend away somewhere warm in March?
Discussion
Looking to book a weekend away with Mrs JQ towards the start of March 2018. We'd be flying from Manchester. My first choice was Santander, but it doesn't look very warm at that time of the year. Second choice was Lisbon, but she's going there in June.
Any recommendations? By the sea would be nice, but not essential and it needs to be reasonably cheap.
Cheers

Santander and the Picos de Europa was dull and windy with single figure temperatures and thick with the remains of winter snow when I went in April a few years back.
Warmest place in Europe in March is probably going to be southern Spain along the Costa del Sol and down towards Gibraltar. Might be worth a look at Cyprus weather too.
If you were going for longer then the Canaries would be a safe bet. March will see 20+ deg temperatures and sunshine pretty much guaranteed. If you can find shelter from the trade wind in a south facing resort it'll be lovely, but it's 4 hours from the south of the UK and I wouldn't do that flight just for a weekend.

Cheers. Canaries is looking like a distinct possibility.
Blimey That's some distance for a weekend break. Which island? We're only 10 mins from Manchester Airport, so 4hrs 20 mins direct flight isn't too bad when considering door to door travel times, especially as a flight without the kids will seem like a treat in itself.
I'd go for Playa Blanca then.
Sheltered by the Papagayo mountains there's a micro climate shared with north Furteventura that mostly means better weather than the rest of the island. It's often sunny there when the rest of Lanzarote is under cloud. Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen are both closer to Arrecife airport but are more exposed to the trade wind and are more likley to be cloudy and dull if you hit a bad patch weather wise. Both these resorts are also very popular with the beer and chips in the sunshine mouth-breathers too whereas Playa Blanca is a little more up market.
Much wider choice of hotels in PB too, we've stayed in the Rubicon Place which is some way out of the resort centre several times in the past but all the hotels in the resort are pretty much generic 4* international brands.
Respect for schlepping all that way for a weekend though...

We do loads of active stuff, lots of city breaks, mountain biking weekends and ski trips with the kids - the opportunity to lie by a pool and read a book, if only for 48 hours is very very appealing.Playa Blanca certainly appeals, we've been a few times - rented a villa in October when the kids were little. I didn't realise the other resorts suffered worse weather, I had been looking at them, will have a closer look at just Playa Blanca - would be more than happy to spend a weekend there.
