Generic serotide.

Collected a new prescription for my seretide inhaler.
Ended up with the cheaper generic sirdupla. Bloody stuff is making me wheeze every time I take it :-( So much so that I'm having to hit my ventolin.
Pharmacist didn't mention they were about to palm me off with this st. Not chuffed!
Anyone else experience this?

Anyone correct my stupid spelling in the topic heading please?

I’ve dispensed lots of both over the years, some said the Sirdupla was an improvement, some said no different, some didn’t get on with it at all. Mouth feel, taste etc etc are different.
The two are bioequivalent but are not identical - different excipients.
Also depends what your GP has prescribed, hefty price difference for the NHS so default is now to the Sirdupla brand.
Pharmacist should have told you about the change - but if your prescription is for Sirdupla that’s what they have to dispense.

Go and ask for another script for Seretide

As it says in section 4.4 of the SmPC:

"As with other inhalation therapy paradoxical bronchospasm may occur with an immediate increase in wheezing and shortness of breath after dosing. Paradoxical bronchospasm responds to a rapid-acting bronchodilator and should be treated straightaway. Sirdupla should be discontinued immediately, the patient assessed and alternative therapy instituted if necessary."


Get back to your doctor, tell them and get a new script that specifically states Seretide (not a n other brand, or written generically).


Of course you, or your doctor, should also submit an adverse event report (but probably won't happen).

Thanks for all of the replies, appreciated!

Went back to the pharmacist, explained what had happened and she swapped it for my usual seretide.

On checking the prescription issued the doc has been, mmmmmm, a bit general with what has been prescribed. Fluticasone 125 micrograms/Salmeterol 25 micrograms. This is apparently not my usual prescription and the pharmacist did say that someone should have checked before issuing me with the sirdupla.

All sorted now and I will double check in future as opposed to just handing the prescription over.

That was kind of her, she shouldn't really have done that. I take it you hadn't opened the pack
