I'm finally too old for Radio 1

Besides do we have to know what every single modern slang lyric means, to
actually enjoy a tune.
Yes I'm afraid we do as there is nothing harmonically or rhythmically interesting going on modern "pop" music. actually enjoy a tune.
I've just been subjected to the "yawnin" gibberish because a couple of the sales execs like to think they're younger than they are. Without merit of any sort.
Full disclosure: I'm 37 years old.
I still listen to Radio 1 on a Friday night or Saturday night as I still very much enjoy House music and suchlike etc. None of the chavvy 'big tunes' Dance Anthems type stuff, but Annie Mac plays a lot of new House, Deep House, DnB, Funky etc.
To be honest, I tend to avoid listing to radio stations that play music.
I know it sounds silly, but I like: Jazz, House, really hard sweary Rap/Hip Hop, heavy 80's/90's Rock, Soul, and a bit of RnB.
So what is the chance of listening to a radio station and they will be playing something I like? Very slim...
So I just listen to news and discussion type radio stations such as LBC or BBC4/World Service.
The rest of the time I have Apple Music and a massive heap of playlists on my iPhone which I listen to when I'm in the car or at work etc.

Having spent 9 of my formative years growing up in Barking (don't worry it got a lot, lot better thereafter! ) I find this song highly amusing..... I'm just about savvy enough to understand (or at least have a good guess at) the majority of the lyrics, although would agree it's a load of old ste.
For the record, I now listen to Radio 4 in the car - highly informative on world events, informative pieces on some very diverse topics and the occasional amusing anecdote worth passing on in conversation. The rest of the time it will be Spotify. Grimmy was the death knoll of Radio 1 as far as I am concerned. I think he is on about £4/500k for the privilege? Absolute joke - but hey, he ticks a couple of boxes on the old diversity list I suppose....

Sounds like you are growing up, that's all.
Find a channel or Spotify stream that plays something like this.

For my money the best popular song and lyrics ever written, and here sung by the two greatest singers of all time.

I would've recommended Radio X when it first started but it's gone downhill over the last few months. Johnny Vaughan is the only thing worth listening to now, his show is brilliant, they have a good team. I didn't used to like him either. It's almost as good as the heady halcyon days of Mark and Lard. I didn't realise JV was so well read and intelligent, he'd hidden that from view on tv.
Vernon Kay's show was good for a bit of rock but he left a while ago. The playlist has nosedived this last year. The Fratellis are on every third record and it's mainly similar "indy" music which I just find tedious and is seemingly ubiquitous anyway elsewhere. I've drifted over to Absolute lately, who play a surprising amount of proper rock mixed with a variety of music.

I'm 40. I've not listened to Radio 1 for about 15 years.
Modern pop music does sound sh*t to me, but apparently old people thought that when the Beatles arrived too....
I listen to Radio 4 (have done since I was at university), 6music (the only reason to have a DAB in the car) , various podcasts and subscribe to Spotify.
Radio 2 is mostly bilge. They appear to aim for the "niche" 35 to 100 year old audience, with all the precision of a blunderbuss packed with marbles. Middle of the road crap... And Steve "hate the show" Wright.
Radio 3 should have given its FM channel to 6Music when it started

Radio X seems to be default when I listen to the radio. Admittedly quite rare, sometimes at dinner. This week I'm in a hire car without Bluetooth connectivity so I've had it on.Vernon Kay's show was good for a bit of rock but he left a while ago. The playlist has nosedived this last year. Moyles show on a morning, and Vaughan both make me laugh probably more than they should.
If I hear suede, animal nitrate again though I'm throwing the radio out. Good song way overplayed.

I recall the days when Dave Pearce was playing Dance Anthems...
Judge Jules & Pete Tong to, the soundtrack to many a house party in my teens. As someone else pointed out the biggest issue is Radio 1 can be a bit too brainless with a selection of terrible tunes. Radio 2 is far too dull and only plays a small selection of music for the 25-40age group
I listened to Radio One since the early 70s. I finally bailed out when Chris Moyles left, he's roughly my age and I just enjoyed his style. I carried on dipping in to Scott Mills (oo-er) when he still had Chappers as a side-kick, and previous to that Mark and Lard were great. I always had a hard soft spot for Sara Cox, especially as she once read out one of my texts on air
Now dwelling in Europe I'm surrounded by the same inoffensive Euro-bland which gets played all over the world. In the main modern music is dead for me - I simply can't be arsed any more.

Like many others, Chris Moyles was the only thing keeping me attached to radio 1. When he left we found Heart Radio on DAB (which was the London show with baby spice). That was awesome, but then we lost that in favour of the regional version which was a quite st by comparison. Persevered though and it's not too bad, I like the music they play.
I've turned 40 about 4 months ago and realised I'm now old enough to actually enjoy Radio 4. Rather like it I do. Except the Archers thing, that's just daft.
So Radio 4 now when I'm on my Billy, with occasional bits of Radio 2, Heart when with the Mrs and kids CDs when we're as a family.

I've always liked a bit of Radio 4, you hear (and learn about) all kinds of things that you would never have sought out.The Archers, though... A hammy farming soap with "melodrama"...

Steady on, you're not that old!Radio 4 is a bit hit and miss, just depends what's on and how interesting it is to you.
Like the BBC site, they can drone on about leftie issues a bit too, and then you have Woman's hour rubbish, the typical content of which is shown below domestic abuse, hairstyles...

Radio 5 can also be good, lots of non-sport talk/current affairs stuff.[url]
