I purchased a Discovery Sport 2.2 HSE Luxury about a year ago. It was about 18 months old, done just over 7000 miles. The car was registered to Land Rover so I assume it was a demonstrator/loan car etc.

The car has now done around 18,000 miles and I have notice that the tyres are showing signs of wear. The fronts, especially, look like the outside area has worn more than elsewhere.

I’m thinking ahead a bit about possible replacements. Currently fitted are Continental 245/45R20 V 103. I think I saw something a while back where owners reported that the tyre wear I have spotted is a common issue with these OEM tyres. I have in mind Michelin’s Lattitude Cross DT or maybe Pirelli’s Scorpion Verde 102H. Both seems to be better overall than the Continentals

I use the vehicle for road use, around town and quite often long journeys, rarely off road and then only lightly.

I’d appreciate hearing any PHers’ recommendations, experiences etc.

What did you go for in the end?

Your situation is similar to my own and I don't fancy forking out for Continental Cross Contact LX Sports if they are just going to do the same thing again. I have only just done 20,000 miles and the front tyres are worn at the outsides only. Back tyres are fine.

The Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season looking like a potential alternative, failing that maybe the Michelin Latitude Sport 3 given the amount of rain we get here in Scotland!

Would be interested to learn what others have gone with and what mileage / experiences they are having with them...?

Ewanrobb,

Thanks for your response….always good to get at least one!

I have not made a decision or changed any tyres just yet. I had them inspected last week and was told that the rears have 6mm so they are OK and the fronts 3mm which will be good for around another 2000 miles. They seem to have worn on the edges but the centres are OK. The car is due its first MoT at the end of July and I’ll be having an annual service then, so I’ve decided to fit new fronts mid July.

I have not decided which tyres to fit. I like the OM Contis but they do not seem to achieve a good mileage.

Whatever I decide to fit, I will post on here.

I changed mine for the Pirelli Scorpions last year. Massive improvement over the OEM tyres, grip is much better and coped very well with the snow back in January. I’m in the Highlands so the wet weather grip is important.
Hope this helps.

Hi OP, I can't comment on tyre choice as MrsCs DS has only done 1,500 miles so far although it might be worth having the alignment checked on your car to see if that's contributing to the tyre wear? I've an X1 M-Sport and I'm planning on having the alignment checked every 6 or so months as I do about 25k miles a year as the roads these days seem to knock the alignment out more on cars as the wheels/tyres have got wider. An alignment check will be less than half the cost of 1 new tyre fitted.
