Spotify - any good ?
Discussion
Ive used iTunes since the arrival of MP3 tech, and used to use LastFM as a way of discovering new music, but they changed and I dont use it anymore.
I tend to scour Amazon in the CD section to try new stuff. If I dont like it, I can at least ebay the cd.....
Is the free version worth bothering with ?
Anything else out there ?

What medium you looking at playing from?
I find spotify great for it's versatility, I have it on my phone so can play from there when out and about, then at home my amp is spotify connected in the lounge and Alexa works with it in the kitchen. Easy.
I don't think I can go back to not having it now...

Spotify Premium is really good and well worth the money. I've had it for about a year now.
I've had premium about 2-3 years now running it with Sonos via the phone, very easy to use, well worth the £10 @ month, if one kid or other is on it the other can use basic Prime music on the side etc.

More interested in the ability to find new music tbh.....?
Yes, they have something called "Discover"... every Monday I get a new playlist with songs and artists based on those I already like but have not yet listened to... :-)I pay full price for Spotify (£10 a month), and wouldn't live without it. I had Tidal for a while (£20 per month for the HIFI option, which I had, but £10 for the same quality as Spotify).
Tidal is not very good. Really, unless you're in to Jay-Z, I see no reason to have it (since he isn't on Spotify, for obvious reasons). The curation is not very good, and I would say it's not as intuitive to use as Spotify. I realise this wasn't the question you asked, but figured it'd be worth mentioning, just in case.
Spotify is an essential part of my life. The ability to...
- Listen to people I love, without having loads and loads of CDs, or even having to store MP3s.
- Find new people, based on my likes, based on curated playlists, etc.
- Play (almost) any album I've ever wanted to, at the drop of a hat. Don't like the album? Move on to the next. Remembered that random 1-hit wonder from the 90s? You can grab it without downloading it!
... is worth £10 a month any day to me.
Oh, and I had the free version for a while. It cheesed me off too much in the end. The huge advantage is point 3 for me - being able to just listen to exactly what I want, when I want.
Hope that helps.

I've tried all the main players and Spotify is the best for me. I've discovered so much new music from it and it's nice and easy to use. When I upgraded my Hi-Fi I decided to trial the higher quality TIDAL instead but it didn't have half my Spotify playlist library. I also tried some more mainstream stuff for Mrs Toon and was met with loads of artist doesn't want their music on TIDAL type messages.
I couldn't really tell the difference between the two in terms of quality either. On one or two tracks, the TIDAL version sounded better but it certainly wasn't night and day. That said, I'd happily pay more if Spotify offered a better quality stream.
A few great Spotify features I use a lot are:
I've got loads of huge playlists now and it recommends tracks based on what's in the list and a quick press of the plus button and it adds it.
I can Shazam music when I'm out and about and it automatically stores them in a Shazam Spotify playlist for later use.
I love the download to device option for when I'm listening offline
Spotify connect works a treat on my Hi-Fi.
