I’ve seen The Smyths at least ten times, the are exceptionally good, and have now been going far longer than The Smiths were ever together.

Graham, the ‘Morrissey’ is a lovely chap, and as far as I know not a bonkers racist!

In case anyone's been inspired by this thread, we've booked for one of these this year.

https://www.fakefestivals.co.uk

Been wanting to let our kids see a bit of live music, but bands at pubs in the evening are off limits, proper festivals are a bit hardcore/too much of a commitment and this way they'll see some tunes they are familiar with.

Anyone else done one before?

P.S. I'm off to my second https://www.bonfest.com in a couple of weeks time.

I love Tragedy-an all metal tribute to the Bee Gees.
Now that sounds like a good night out!

Do they have to pay royalties?
I don't know about the royalties. They are indeed a good night out though. Really good musicians, catchy songs, don't take themselves too seriously (well how can you when that's your "schtick"?) Great showmen. They also have a guy called Lance who's gonna it is to mainly take crap from the band and run round wearing a sailor's outfit with flames on. Because that's an important part of the creative process.

They're on tour now. I think their website is let's make tragedy happen.

Also, I love that their first two albums were called We rock sweet balls and can do no wrong, followed by Humbled by our greatness.

Probably the most professional of all I've seen The Illegal Eagles.
These are the only tribute band I've seen.

As the chances of seeing the Eagles live are now zero, I went to see the Illegal Eagles and they were actually very good (and good fun, they don't take themselves too seriously, but do take the performances seriously, exactly what you want!).

I'm still not entirely sold on the idea of tribute bands, but I'd recommend The Illegal Eagles if you do fancy some live Eagles material.

I was recently asked to join a Cliff Richard tribute band.

I'm sure you can guess what my answer was!

I have seen the Australian Pink Floyd at the O2 and though they were great. Is that who you ment?

I believe Dave Gilmore has seen the Australian Pink Floyd and agreed that they were very good.

Limehouse lizzy have been around forever... I remember seeing them at Notts americana about 20 years ago.

They were very good back then, not seen them since.

We used to travel up to Kendal every christmas for an AC/DC tribute called AC/DO, they were the best of many that I've seen but I think they packed it in.

I do usually try and seek out good new music rather than tributes and covers though......

Saw this on Facebook, going to Birmingham show this year. I don’t remember the last time I was this excited.

Its a bit better than that, they actually played at Gilmore's 50th Birthday party

That's why I queried it, I wasn't sure if Oz Floyd was a different tribute band to the Australian Pink Floyd.

Though very competent I didn't think either of the Floyd tribute bands were particularly good. The problem is when a tribute band becomes so close to the band they're copying they have no identity of their own. Now you might say that's the point, but that just means closer scrutiny and awareness of the fact they're actually very good copyers, and that can just make you feel a little...flat.
