After going back and watching old Top Gear episodes (specifically, the "cheap car" episodes), it made me curious, what "modern" cars have vanished from British roads that used to be commonplace, say, a few years ago? Here are 10 that I can think of:

1. Ford Escort
2. Vauxhall Cavalier
3. MG Rover products (Metro/100, 200, 400, 800, etc.)
4. Older Korean/Malaysian cars (Hyundai, Kia, Daewoo, Proton, Perodua)
5. Citroen AX
6. Peugeot 205
7. Vauxhall Vectra (early examples at least)
8. Ford Probe
9. Nissan Primera
10. Peugeot 306

Again, these are just 10 examples, and I am certainly aware of plenty more, but for the sake of convenience, I am letting other PHers list more.

Scrappage scheme killed most of the 90s cars.

I’d add
Ford Orion
Pretty much any Rover
Alta 156, 164 or 166

I saw yesterday:

1) a 1999 Renault Laguna
2) a 1998 Ford Escort

Was very surprised to see either! Maybe they are only brought out in good weather smile

I've seen the same 1994 Scorpio estate twice in the last week or so on my commute - looks very tidy in white, but stuck out like a sore thumb in modern traffic.

I haven't seen an "everyday" Nova for a very long time.

I saw a Vauxhall Chevette a few weeks ago; it's been a very long time since I last saw one.

Renault 25. Never massively common anyway, but I'm nostalgic for them as my dad used to own one, and I remember seeing others around at the time. I haven't seen on in the UK in about 15 years now. Have seen them in France however.

Peugeot 205? I saw a convertible CTi model just this weekend.

I'd nominate the 405, and the even rarer 605.

Can't remember the last time I saw anything large and French, including the Vel Satis, Avantime and C6. Even the current big Pug is quite rare.

Saw 2 Metros and a bunch of 1100s only yesterday, think they were on the way from a meet.

LIAR!

I'm pretty certain they came out of the factory with duct taped bumpers.

I've had my e36 2.5 20 years now. I am slightly surprised to see another on the road these days.

I think the rest have been made into drift cars or track only racers.
