This thread was inspired by hearing the Beatles - Hey Jude on R2 earlier.

The 'play out' at the end goes on far too long and is far too repetitive.

I can think of some other bands guilty of the same thing (but can't remember the songs) but the Stones and Meat Loaf spring to mind.

What songs seem to go on forever and irk you?

I was going to say Layla as soon as I saw this thread. I only listen to the vocals and then tend to skip the song when it turns to an instrumental

I know a song that will get on your nerves.

The first word is one to many, and I bet somebody will go to bed with it on their minds now hehe

I wonder if anyone has ever listened to that all the way through to catch the loop edits.

I've got a couple of Gary Moore live tracks in the car, and I think that some of the bits in the guitar solos go on a bit too long. There's one where he holds a note for just too long, and another where there's a break before he starts up again, again too long. It comes across as him waiting for adulation, which is a bit distasteful.

That song would go on too long even if it only lasted half a second! grumpy

Parisienne Walkways.

I seem to recall that 'back in the day', sustaining a note for that long was quite an achievement.

One that sticks in my mind is "Every You, Every Me" by Placebo.

3.5 minute long song of which 1 minute is the outro.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMaycNcPsHI

Also the album version of Curtis Mayfield "Move on Up". Three minutes of the song plus five minutes of the same tune but no lyrics...

I also recall seeing Metallica at Wembley touring the Black Album in 1991/2 (?).

EVERY SINGLE SONG they just went on hitting their instruments for about a minute after the song had finished, while we all applauded.

Got a bit boring after a while.

Like the Black Album, actually.

That's the one, and "Still got the blues for you" is the other one, or a main lyric if not the title. I get that it's an achievement, but it's just a bit too much. More annoying because it's in the middle of a really good solo that would otherwise be really impressive.

Yep, that's really annoying as well, as if all the songs fade out on the record and they can't be bothered figuring out how to do a proper ending. (Can't say I've heard much of their stuff except "the main one" on a studio album).

Oh, and the drum solo in the Motorhead set at the last Glastonbury they played. There was only thirty minutes of it shown on BBC TV, and almost half of it seemed to be taken up by a drum solo. Aren't most drum solos too long?

Indeed.
Very little worse than a drum solo imho
