Stevie Ray Vaughan wanders into a sound check, with his Double Trouble outfit gently practicing beats and grooves and such like.

He yawns.

Then pokes them into this:-

Never understood why Clapton is revered as a bluesman. Little original stuff, and the covers he does are unexceptional. Agree with you about early Bonamassa.
Listen to "From the cradle" and you might understand. One of the best ever covers albums by probably Britain's, if not the world's, best living blues player.
It's covers, which is exactly my point. Britain's best bluesman is probably John Mayall. Clapton 'guested' on a couple of his early albums. But Ive got From the Cradle somewhere so I'll reacquaint myself with it and give you a verdict later.
Just remembered I'd said I would reply.

No change in my opinion, Clapton's OK, very good in parts, but I'd like to add I'd forgotten how poor his singing is. hehe

Soooo overrated IMO.

Early ZZ Top for some dirty stuff. Brown Sugar is a goodie, for example.

It's a cover.

Here's the original - from the previous page!!

Meant to post this earlier. If you like Bonamassa you'll love this wailing, tortuous guitar work. Bit better than old Joe though wink

Melvin Taylor - Blue Jean Blues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnttI7aEI0g
NB. ZZ Top do some very excellent blues though, ie Jesus Just Left Chicago - which they did actually write.

If you're looking for a new artist, I can recommend Gary Clark Jr, particularly the live albums. All on Spotify. Muff pedal loveliness.

I found finding the right blues music for me quite hard, although I liked vintage R&B and Hendrix (of course!)

What did it for me in the end was a mono copy on Chess Records of Little Walters "Hate To See You Go" lp.

Uptempo raw and he also has a great voice, back story and happens to be a genius harmonica player.
It also happens to be one of Keith Richards fave lps.

I quite like a bit of Slim Harpo and Howlin Wolf too.

To me, the Blues start with the Delta Blue. And if your starting with the Delta Blues. You start with Son house.

Sorry for repetition if they've already been mentioned, but Stan Webb, Sonny Landreth and for a younger outlook on things, Oli Brown

Realised I had Amazon Music recently as part of my Prime subscription, so I've been working my way through a few other suggested artists on this thread. Some excellent stuff so far cool

Currently working through Stevie Ray Vaughan smile

She has started broadening her range lately but Samantha Fish did some great blues on her early albums.

This is the more extreme end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFoj4Pp_5bU

This is a more classic electric blues track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL9rBAjut2g

Great vocals, measured blues solos, tree-trunky thighs? She gets my vote

Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa - I'd Rather go Blind.
I'd forgotten about Ms Hart of late but this track is quite brilliant, originally by Etta James, Beth owns it here:
