That's the Reading line-up?? OK I'm over 50 and the last time i was there was '79, but i've not heard of a single band in that list. Has Reading given up? It used to trump all the other fezzies. I'm guessing there's a few headliners you've not included in that list!

1984 : AC/DC / Van Halen/Ozzy/Gary Moore/Y&T/Accept/Motley Crue

That was proper stuff, none of your multi-stage, multi-day pseudo middle-class fake love-in ste of today.

kiss were staggeringly good in Manchester last night. Amazing show, theatrics and pyros. Kind of gutted its the end.
I can honestly say I was surprised how good the gig was. Put virtually every other band I've ever seen in the shade. A lesson in how to do stadium rock and I don't think anyone else will ever come close. Not really my taste in rock music (I prefer the heavier stuff) but I'm so glad I eventually got to see the hottest rock'n'roll band in the land.dickymint said:

Same here What struck me was the total lack of atmosphere at the festival. I was expecting T in the Park levels of debauchery (having never been to Leeds before), but it was just a large group of sober young kids, quietly going about having a good time. The Foos finished and everybody just walked back to their tents in almost total silence. Jaysus it was dull and just a little sad to see how things have moved on (and how I've got old!). The band was good though and a surprise appearance from Freddie Mercury on stage was fun.

I too don't recognise any bands in that line up either.
Funny there's now a band called the 1975 (that was a decent era!) - never heard of 'em.
But then that's probably because I'm showing my age here, last time I went to Reading, Windsor area etc to watch groups was a long time ago - the 60s!
I can't remember half of the many acts, singers, groups etc I saw back then (and elsewhere) Today the miles I travelled would cost a f. fortune! As would today's entrance fees LOL.
Fave at the time were probably these.
This was at Reading (but not outside) a tad later in 70, they appeared all over the place with other groups, but usually had top billing.
I think peak reading was early to mid 2000’s.
The crowds were up for it borderline riotous, remember the big deodorant bonfire where even the security wouldn’t go in that field ? I think at one point people tried to set fire to the security watchtower!
What strikes me though is even the most indie band like say teenage fan club would of got a mosh pit for there set unlike now when it’s the exception.

A couple of new ones penciled in for me:
Mercury Prize awards this Thursday at Hammersmith Apollo. These artists are performing: Black Midi, Foals, Fontaines D.C, Little Simz, NAO, Anna Calvi, Cate Le Bon, Dave, IDLES, Cassie Kinoshi’s SEED Ensemble and slowthai. Ones in bold I'm most interested in seeing.
Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris in November. Got a day ticket so will be seeing Charli XCX and The 1975.
