Gig Plans - 2019

Sort-of gig related - did anyone see Spirits in the Forest last night? A one-off showing of the Depeche Mode film.
Really enjoyed it, the live footage was amazing, the fan segments were mostly tolerable although one song where they cut from the live performance to the dad & kids playing it on their kazoo and toy piano was a bit irritating!
DM are well and truly on my bucket list. They've no tours listed for next year, and they seem to do a lot of festivals which aren't really my bag, so will have to keep an eye out and maybe take a flight somewhere to catch them. High time they played Basildon Town Hall IMO
I missed it last week but my local Vue did a repeat showing, however having read several fan comments on the DM Facebook page I decided to give it a swerve - seemed to focus too much on the 'stories' of fans rather than the band. As someone put it "if you're expecting 101 part 2, forget it" ... so I did. Saw Kate Tempest a week last Saturday and the Chemical Brothers on Saturday there, two more different gigs you couldn't imagine, both brilliant at what they do.
I need to calm it though, two gigs in as many weeks and I'm done in, getting old, perhaps I need to learn that I don't need 8 pints to enjoy a gig anymore, I did go to see Gorillaz last year sober though, and spent the whole gig getting pints poured over me and my feet stood on, vowing to never go to a gig like that again sober. Not sure if it's everywhere or just a Glasgow crowd thing, but everyone tends to go a bit mental up here!

Was at Liam Gallagher last week in Aberdeen, and the crowd were very 'boisterous'... Lots of airborne beer, got pretty wet. I was feeling a bit old as well, not helped by having to behave and drive!I need to calm it though, two gigs in as many weeks and I'm done in, getting old, perhaps I need to learn that I don't need 8 pints to enjoy a gig anymore, I did go to see Gorillaz last year sober though, and spent the whole gig getting pints poured over me and my feet stood on, vowing to never go to a gig like that again sober. Rubbish gig, worst day out ever !
Saw Spirit of Talk Talk (A celebration of Mark Hollis and Talk Talk) last night at the Festival Hall, last gig of the year for me.
The musicians were really excellent and although only one of the original band performed the majority of the musicians had either been in the original Colour of Spring touring band or performed on the last 3 albums.
Most of the guest vocalists/musicians really worked with Orlando Weeks (ex Maccabees) sounding eerily like Mark Hollis, a couple of let downs vocally but the closest I'll ever get to seeing Talk Talk live.

not been on for a while but have been very busy gigging with a wide selection of acts
November so far
Michael Kiwanuka - album launch acoustic gig at SWX Bristol
Crazy P - Brixton Electric
Tom Walker - acoustic gig SWX (another one promoted by Rough Trade)
Maverick Sabre - Shepherds Bush Empire
all very good, seen all previously. the 2 acoustic sets were great, seeing acts that can sell much bigger venues in small places is my preferred method.
have Mario Biondi at Ronnie Scotts & then Chemical Brothers at Birmingham Arena tomorrow & Friday
quite a bit in store for December too
Underworld at Wembley Arena, Jorja Smith at Islington Assembly Hall, Pete Tong Ibiza Classics at Birmingham, Sinead Harnett at Shepherds Bush Empire, House Gospel Choir at Brixton Electric, then finish off with Lianne Carol at Ronnie Scotts on 27/12

Anyone at the Airbourne gig in Kentish town last night? This is the fourth time seeing them and quite possibly one of the best gigs I have ever been too. A decent sized venue with a band that put on a stadium style show every time.
Sadly not there, but I've seen them a couple of times over the years and they never fail to put on a show. Absolutely cracking live band.CAPP0 said:

Seen them 3 times - 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. All amazing gigs - if anything they're getting better as time goes by. I saw them supporting Duran Duran at Hammersmith, it must have been '81 or '82, we'd never heard of them at the time!Gassing Station | Music | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
