Over the years I'm sure everybody has had those moments of 'hell, I can't get that song out of my head!' usually emanating from a line or lyrics in a song.

I'm a massive Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fan and I play lots of their stuff continuously, especially in the car.
Yesterday we (wife) were driving over to my son's (about 20 miles) and naturally I had TP on. My wife likes the band as much as me, but not as obsessed as me. So to change things a bit I put on a different album by them and she's not conversant with this song but I love it.

After this song had been on several times (I just do repeat!) she asked me to 'please just put some other group on for a change' but I didn't.

I found out why this morning, she came down the stairs singing
I'm takin' control of my life,
I'm takin' control of my life,
I'm takin' control of my life now,
right now,
oh yeah,
now,
right now,
oh yeah -

the she adds:
'I've had that bloody song in my head all night!'

hehe

Not quite the same, but every time that George Ezra track comes on the radio, I'm hearing "Time flies by when you're the driver of a train" instead of the real lyrics. And another bit of the same song reminds me of an old joke, the bit where he sings "Two in the front, two in the back".

Not quite the same for me, either.

Probably because I play guitar, it's usually melodies / tunes I can't get rid of. Especially if I'm learning to play a new tune, it sticks in my head.

Here's a daft one; back in 2016 we were holidaying in Cuba to celebrate our 10th anniversary, which involved a 9 hour flight. Now, the 10 hour flight to the Maldives for our honeymoon had me climbing up the walls of the 'plane by the end and I was really not looking forward to another long haul. A few days before - totally unconnected - had me watching some Philip Glass vids on the 'tube (I love Glass' work), and re-visited this:-

Glass Works

I swear this tune running around my head for most of the flight kept me sane.

I am also sure it would drive others insane.

"Too hard on the brakes again
What if these brakes just give in?
What if they don't get out of the way?
What if there's someone overtaking?"

This has been buzzing through my head for the last couple of days.

Do, do, do, do, do do do, do. do, do, do, do, dooo...

Yep, Tom's Diner, but Suzanne Vega.

Pops into my head at the strangest times!

Saw her in London a couple of years ago and she was excellent, although I've never really been a big fan of hers generally!

For the last couple of weeks it's been "You came on your own, it's how you'll leave", though

Ha ha me too. I’d rather listen to the Chigley version though. Bloody annoying song.
