Anyone else on here seen them live, and what are your memories?

(I'm talking about the original foursome with Bonzo, not Page/Plant etc)

I went to the last nights gig at Earls Court in May '75 and both Knebworths in August 1979.

Nope.

But I've watched The Song Remains the Same too many times to mention.

I went to see Peter Grant's house, in East Sussex in 2012 featured in the opening scene of The Song Remains the Same (1976), unfortunately it was rather run down.....

I'm no expert but weren't Page/Plant part of the original set up, I thought they were?

Knebworth '79. The two of us sneaked out of boarding school in Rutland for the night.

Yes, along with bass player John Paul Jones (Real name John Baldwin) and drummer John Bonham.

Bonham died in 1980 after a heavy drinking spree at Page's house in Windsor aged 32.

Page and Plant reformed for a while in the 90's covering some Zeppelin material, but also new stuff.

Yep, Knebworth.

My memory was actually seeing and hearing them live was far far better than any of their recorded live work, I just don’t think it’s ever been captured successfully.

Was it you Wacky who removed the rotor arm from your mini for security that night and lost it?

I think that Wacky is alluding to the post Zep band that Jimmy and Percy did, called Page & Plant.

King's, Edinburgh 1973.

I'm a massive fan, but I thought they were overly self-indulgent that night, especially Mr Page. Only seeing them once, I can't say if that was a one-off or not

I was given Led Zeppelin One by a neighbour when I was 13 in October 1980. I was gutted when I loved it to discover that they'd just broken up after Bonzo's death.

I saw Page and Plant at Wembley Arena in 1998. They were in great form for that tour. I failed to get tickets for the 2007 O2 show and that will always be one of my great disappointments.

Drifting off topic........

Zep are often touted as a "rock" group, but we all know they were much more rounded than that.

For example, whenever I pick up an acoustic guitar this is one of the first tunes I'll play:-

Further off topic, listen to Bonzo's drum work on that ^

I saw them in Knebworth and was disappointed that the live songs just weren't as good as the recorded material. Once was enough for me.

Hello O' Mighty one, that's a bit strong isn't it, surely they could just kneel in front of you and beg forgiveness? hehe

I noted on the underrated guitar thread you said you were a tad jealous of me seeing LZ back in June (28th) '69 at Bath.
I've tried hard since to locate a recording from it but seems nothing survives. A mate who was with me back then gave me a link, which is pretty good if you've never seen it, but even this hardened lot on the site don't have any video/recordings of it.

The other link below is the 1970 Bath event with Page wearing his 'yokel' get up (same date again 28 June). I didn't go in '70, I went instead to the earlier Bath City FC event the month prior - to see the Mac again - they were last on (the power was pulled by the organisers right on time, so no encore, but it didn't stop Mick F who just kept on drumming and drumming which was rather amusing at the time, although not to the organisers!)

I also went in August to the event of the year (or any year for that matter!) and still rates for me as the best festival ever, on the Isle of Wight - even though FM were not there, nor of course Led Zeppelin. Just 3 quid for Fri/Sat/Sun and most of the world's top groups/names seems absolutely laughable today in comparison. No wonder the crowd attendance totally eclipsed (doubled or more) the USA's Woodstock the year prior.

To think what we've just paid for five of us to see Fleetwood Mac at Wembley next June makes me wince, for what will be at most a couple hrs.

Sorry to have gone a bit away from LZ. Anyway, here are the links - as LZ fans you may well have seen them... but if not. cool

Thanks, Dan.

I saw Fleetwood Mac a couple of years ago at the Isle of Wight Festival, Christine McVie was in wonderful voice, but Lindsey Buckingham was the standout for me. His guitar playing and his voice were magnificent, Seeing Fleetwood Mac without him would be a disappointment for me.

I managed. To wangle tickets for Fleetwood Mac's London show next year, cannot wait to see them live!
