'Let it roll' and 'Hypergeek' are form one of my favourite musical moments. They must be listened to in order.

The melody of 'let it roll' is just beautiful, and it transitions into 'Hypergeek', all melodious major tonality arpeggios, acoustic guitars and sweet pianos. Then it hits you, like a nailbomb. I don't want to spoil the surprise but these two MUST be listened to in order. With the stereo on loud and dynamic range set to the maximum!

He's amazing. One of the most talented singers and guitar players of his generation, criminally underrated.

Can go from opera to death metal in a heartbeat.

Ziltoid the Omniscient is impressively hilarious.
Speaking of "from opera to death metal"... Laure Le Prunenc from Igorrrr OMG I think I'm a little in love...

If you've not heard of Igorrr before, it's a project by a French producer that mixes opera, IDM and death/black metal. Worth digging on Youtube for live performances. The soundtrack to my Halloween!

A local venue is advertising that tickets for "An evening with Devin Townsend" go on sale on the 16th. Unsure what such a night might entail but for £35 a pop in an intimate venue I presume it'll be great for fans.

I was just going to post on this. I managed to get a ticket to the Bristol gig this morning, a small consolation for all the stuff I've missed out on since Vai. The wife doesn't get it so this is one for the "Going to stuff alone thread"

Amazing musician, I love most of his musical output and I was completely sold the day that I saw Strapping Young Lad at Download in 2006, he has an upcoming acoustic tour that I have my eyes on but holidays for next year are already looking tight so I may have to miss it frown

If it's any consolation I'm almost certain I'll be going alone to the one in Leeds, my wife remarked that she'd rather go see the Spice Girls laugh

The spice girls hmm. Anyway, back to real music, seems like these dates are all selling out. Hope you get a ticket on the 16th.

Watched that earlier this evening. I hadn't heard of the condition synthesia before, Devin can visualise sound as colours and shapes as well as being pitch perfect. Fascinating insight.

It wasn’t all metal, I toured with Black Star Liner, who were an Asian influenced dub rock band, they were critically acclaimed, but never made the sales, and were dropped by their label...
I actually bought a copy! Although I don't think I have it anymore, lost in the great CD collection theft of 1998.
I remember seeing them play a couple of times as well including a headline gig at Exeter Cavern.

I found that amazing, that he doesn't have a thorough grasp of music theory but instead visualises the music. It was also interesting when he explained the problems he encounters expressing his ideas to other musicians, I particularly loved the reference to space kitten's whiskers hehe

Can't believe I'd never heard of him until very recently. A complete oversight on my part.

It's one of his acoustic tours, I got a ticket for Bristol and looking forward to it. Also, the new post DTP album Empath is out in March which sounds interesting.

Empath's landed. final track is Singularity. It makes Bohemian Rhapsody sound like a small child playing London's Burning on a recorder. It's in chapters, the ending has Vai.

This may be his best album.

The 7 part documentary on YouTube is an interesting behind the scenes look at the concept of the project and his reasons for pulling the plug on the DTP.

I'm holding off listening to any of the album as I pre-ordered a limited release red vinyl pack from Omerch. I thought I would receive it on release day but no sign of it even being shipped yet and it seems numerous others are in the same boat so quite annoying.
