I can't take anymore
I have no more wings
I can't take anymore
The gates of heaven sealed

Mother, do you think they'll drop the bomb?
Mother, do you think they'll like this song?
Mother, do you think they'll try to break my balls?
Ooh, aah, mother, should I build the wall?

Perfect. In a way... .

When I get mad and I get pissed
I grab my pen and I write out a list
Of all the people that won't be missed
You've made my stlist

And so the story goes they wore the clothes
They said the things to make it seem improbable
Whale of a lie like they hope it was

Only three lines in the first verse.
I love that song.

Good to see Bowie getting props on here, mine would be

Still don't know what I was waitin' for
And my time was runnin' wild, A million dead end streets and
Every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet

And Another Belter from the Charterhouse boys.....

It's one o'clock and time for lunch,
When the sun beats down and I lie on the bench,
I can always hear them talk.
There's always been Ethel:

New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I'll buy me a football team
Money get back
I'm all right Jack keep your hands off my stack.

Armalite, street lights, night sights
Searching the roofs for a sniper, a viper, a fighter
Death in the shadows he'll maim you, he'll wound you, he'll kill you
For a long forgotten cause, on not so foreign shores Boys baptized in war.

I doubt many here will know that one !

They wrote some brilliant lyrics, is areal pit the only song remembered now is the truly awful Kayleigh.

Should be something decent, like Assassin or Garden Party...

Yes indeed!

A police car and a screaming siren
A pneumatic drill and ripped up concrete
A baby wailing and stray dog howling
The screech of brakes and lamp light blinking

And another lyrical genius:

I should've kept my eyes shut
But I had to go and peep
But when you saw what I saw
Well, it's hard just to roll back to sleep

One more (surprised this hasn't been posted already):

Well, I'm running down the road tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind,
Four that wanna own me, Two that wanna stone me,
One says she's a friend of mine

First single I ever bought.
That strumming acoustic guitar intro still gives me the same shivers I felt back in 1980.
Two-tone Sta Prest, Doc Martens and Harrington jacket.....legging it home with a single under my arm on a Saturday morning after spending my paper round wages......smile

Ever since I was a young boy I've played the silver ball
From Soho down to Brighton I must have played them all
But I ain't seen nothing like him in any amusement hall
That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball
In just a few weeks time Pinball Wizard will be fifty years old, yet every time I hear it it sounds to me like it was recorded last week.
Eventually I have researched a question I've been meaning to ask for years. I wondered who played acoustic guitar on the intro of Pinball Wizard waiting for Pete Townsend to come crashing in with the power chord. It turns out it's not an acoustic guitar at all. It's Townsend on the intro waiting for Entwistle with the power chord on bass guitar.

E&OE

No acoustic guitars were harmed in the making of this revelation.

(A - pre - cot smile )

You walked into the party, like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye, your scarf, it was apricot
You had one eye on the mirror, as you watched yourself Gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner, they'd be your partner, and...

After seven days, he was quite tired so God said
"Let there be a day, just for picnics, with wine and bread"
He gathered up some people he had made
Created blankets and laid back in the shade

Woke up this morning the house was cold
Checked out the furnace she wasn't burnin'
Went out and hopped in my old Ford
Hit the engine but she ain't turnin'
