hmmm. I bet the drinks are still off the scale? I could spend the entire evenings wage on a couple of pints and a club sandwich. Ronnie made me teetotal for several years!

This thread has made me listen to 'The Nightfly' again on the big speakers. Not a thing wrong with it. The Brecker Bros. absolutely stunning, and those close vocal harmonies are pretty much perfect.

If I ever met Fagen I think I might have to punch him.

When I was at music college and a member of the MU I could get in for £3 and see both shows, and hear Ronnie’s jokes!!

I think I paid £50 odd quod to see Steve Gadd last year. Worth the money though for that intimate setting, if you get decent seats.

I’ve seen some good gigs at Ronnies but I bloody hate the place. They ripped all the soul out of the place with the new corporate refit a few years ago. Used to be the real hang out for London’s musicians..... shame.

"Don't bend over love, they might throw a cloth over you and make a table for four"

"Is this fking mic on?"

"Can you all hold hands and join hands with the living?" Or something like that.... I saw Spike Milligan playing there one night.... have seen a few of the 'greats' over the years.

And yes, Fagen is extraordinary. Whilst he needed the cynicism of Becker lyrically, his musicality is incredible.

I wonder if Randy is a fan of Everyone's Gone To The Movies?

corporate refit
I haven't been there since the refit, but back in the day we used to hate playing there Fri/Sat as the place was heaving with groups of corporates on a jolly - who would talk LOUDLY and relentlessly through the set, not listening to a note played, yet still, for some reason, clapping at the end of each track.

Midweek was blissful silence.

Back onto Aja - or more specifically Steve Gadd. I assume you've all seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7h6hOs_ySw&ap...

It always amazes me how light a touch Weckl has compared to 'shed-builder' Gadd. Some astonishing playing from all three... 30 years ago!

(What's with the suits!)

Don't want to drift away too much.... but I'm a big fan of Manu Katché and of Keith Carlock too.

Bernard Purdie has to feature in this thread too of course...

Pretty was indeed pretty!

My sincere apologies for brining Weckl back into this SD mix, but I just watched this... the lad still has it (lad might be stretching it!).

Please fwd to 5:30 in - unless you want to time travel back 35 years wink

He’s still pretty good. I tried and failed to see him at RS as part of the Buddy Rich band.

Here’s something to link back to SD.

An awesome talent missed so much. He’s on track 4 of Gaucho.
