Beatles, 'Run for your life':

Well, I'd rather see you dead, little girl
Than to be with another man
You better keep your head, little girl
Or I won't know where I am

You better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end, little girl
And the least said about Maxwell's Silver Hammer the better...

Kate Bush's Infant Kiss has to be the most disturbing set of lyrics ever written

Say good night-night
I tuck him in tight.
But things are not right.
What is this? An infant kiss
That sends my body tingling?
I've never fallen for
A little boy before.
No control.
Just a kid and just at school.
Back home they'd call me dirty.
His little hand is on my heart.
He's got me where it hurts me.
Knock, knock. Who's there in this baby?
You know how to work me.
All my barriers are going.
It's starting to show.
Let go. Let go. Let go.
I cannot sit and let
Something happen I'll regret.
Ooh, he scares me!
There's a man behind those eyes.
I catch him when I'm bending.
Ooh, how he frightens me
When they whisper privately.
("Don't Let Go!")
Windy-wailey blows me.
Words of caress on their lips
That speak of adult love.
I want to smack but I hold back.
I only want to touch.
But I must stay and find a way
To stop before it gets too much!
All my barriers are going.
It's starting to show.
Let go. Let go. Let go.
(Don't let go!)

Butcher Pete by Roy Brown

'All you fellows gotta watch your wifes
Cause Pete don't care who's meat he chops

Ever since Peter flew into town
He's been havin' a ball
Just cuttin' and choppin' for miles around
Single women, married women, old maids and all

Wakes up in the morning, half past five
Chops from sunrise to sunset
I don't see how he stays alive'

There certainly seems to be a bit of a theme of some older songs referencing underage activities!

Depending on what genre you listen to though, there's still plenty of offensive lyrics. You only have to look at the song titles to most of Cannibal Corpse's albums to gauge that haha.

Captain Sensible's interpretation of Happy Talk was on the radio today.

I've never understood how that manged to to slip by un-noticed.

'I want you to grow in my hand' sang Alison Moyet, along with wanting a 'warm injection to ease the pain' or something.

Yeah that whole album is wierd AF, Babooshka is the most normal song on it! Got to number one as well! You'd need to be pretty well read to get away with writing something like that today. Maybe when the film was newer it would have seemed more obvious.

I think much of the general sweet-sixteen stuff probably came from a time where working class types left school asap and got married young (if you got married) so probably had a wider audience and sounded less creepy at the time.

They'd probably be shocked by all the tits, ass and grinding in our lyrics today.

While not sexual in content, the lyrics to John Prine’s “Hello in There”, sung by Bette Midler, always seemed disturbing to me, you’d still get away with them now, but they’re so poignant.
In the song, she’s getting older, and reminiscing about her life and family,
“John and Linda live in Omaha,
Joe is somewhere on the road,
We lost Davy in the Korean War,
And I still don’t know what for,
Don’t matter anymore,

The Infant Kiss was inspired by the psychological horror film 'The Innocents', where governess Deborah Kerr is convinced the children in her care are possessed by adult spirits.

'Fiddle About' from The Who's Tommy isn't going to be played on the radio any time soon (if it ever was). I remember in the Ken Russell film that it's played for laughs.

Doesn’t take society or language to move much each year for things to be “out of fashion” or worse.

Seen Wishbone Ash last year and this. Fifty years of singing “Jailbait” with a comment last year of, “well I’m not sure men of our age should be still singing this [after 50 years]” - and, of course, the lyrics aren’t really that specific but you just know you could find someone, somewhere who would be offended either for themselves or for Society! rolleyes

Anyway... in spirit of this thread, how about most of Jim Morrison’s lyrics?!? biggrin

Would the Blind Faith album cover be OK today?

(I won't post an img link - just Google if you don't know it).

Exactly what I was thinking as I read this thread. Is it worthy of its own?

I always thought Country Life by Roxy Music was a bit risqué in my youth. Now it just seems unnecessary.

If you want an incest song try Don’t Stop Swaying by Sophie B Hawkins. She has done some great tunes but that one? One word.

Dire Straits would struggle with "Money for Nothing" today!

Almost everything by Steel Panther is sufficiently risqué to skip the track if it comes on in the car randomly when in polite company!

Have we had Guns n' Roses Used To Love Her yet?

I used to love her but I had to kill her
I used to love her, oh yeah but I had to kill her
I had to put her six feet under
And I can still hear her complain

I used to love her, oh yeah but I had to kill her
I used to love her, ooh yeah but I had to kill her
I knew I'll miss her so I had to keep her
She's buried right in my back yard

I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I used to love her, ooh yeah but I had to kill her
She bhed so much, she drove me nuts
And now I'm happier this way

Even at the time they were controversial. But today.....

The Macc Lads - just about everything they ever wrote would be banned today.

Three examples:

"No Sheep 'til Buxton" - a song about sheep sh4gging

"Now he's a poof" - I don't know where to start with this one.

"Sweaty Betty" - legend!
I was about to type the same thing.
Pick anything from the Macc Lads back cat and it would not be played anywhere now (it was banned almost everywhere back then ffsk lol)....
