Sisters of Mercy should be on there, not Fleetwood Mac.

Not a single band who formed this millennium, that tells you something both about the fall of rock in the mainstream and I suspect the age of the Louder readership.

Not a single band from the last 20 years is worthy of a place in the top 50? The genre must be more stagnant and dead than I first thought.

I don't know but off the top of my head Savages, Twilight Sad, Arcade Fire, The National and Wild Flag would be contenders.

To be honest though the whole list is massively undermined by the omission of 3 of the most critically lauded and influential bands. Sonic Youth, REM & Radiohead. No doubt they don't fit a very narrow definition of 'rock band'.

Smiler.

Rush?

Qui?

Lots of other things I don't agree with (Nirvana 20 something, but they've had the biggest impact in 30 years?)

Rush at No. 3. Of all frigging time?
Rush are better than your favourite Band even if Rush ARE your favourite band! hehewink

I recall an interview in the NME about thirty years ago where one of Andrew Eldridge's backing musicians took the piss out of him for listening to Fleetwood Mac on the tour bus... hehe

I wandered into the Marquee Club in Wardour street one day 66 or 67ish. The support band was interesting.

Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Micky Waller.

I don't think I've seen a better rock band since.

Very odd list.

No British Punk bands at all?

Nothing from the last 30 years at all (Foo Fighters came out of Nirvana, which is 30 years+ now).

A fair number of 'novelty acts' (or near if not outright - Slade, ZZ Top?)

And what constitutes 'Rock' according to the compilers of this list?

I guess, like most of these lists, it's compiled to spark discussion/argument rather than having any objective value.

I wouldn't put at least 30 of them on my list...

So as there's lots of questionable bands on that list, how about we do our own "PHers Top 50 Bands Of All Time"?

I'll start a new thread and outline some guidance smile

very surprised that Rainbow are so low down - also surprised (but happy!) that Rush are so high up!
