Hi all.

I'm currently teaching myself to read music and play piano. It's all going just fine but what I like best is finding a popular song that I know and can manage to play (just, with practice). The sort of thing that I can play chords on my left hand, a simple melody on the right.

A perfect example is Morning Has Broken - Here's a link:

https://musescore.com/user/11376186/scores/2463326

A nice variety of chords (and good for getting used to inversions), simple melody and in the key of C (though I don't mind F), very playable at my limited ability. I have a piano book of Christmas Carols and many of those work well too.

The trouble is finding similar popular songs. One that I think *might* be simple end up being far from it. There ought to be thousands, I'm sure there are, but I struggle. A Google search is surprisingly unrewarding.

Suggestions for popular songs to fit my criteria would be very welcome.

Thank you.

Dont know your level of ability, so here's a range:
Easy; Robert Miles "children"
Medium; Adelle "set fire to the rain"
Hard; Queen "bohemian rhapsody"

Thanks. My level of ability is very much that the song I linked to is at the top of what I can do. Simple "one note at a time" melody and basic chords.

Adele - someone like you. Fairly simple and gets the fingers working.

Somewhere Only We Know by Keane has a distinct piano track that keeps much of the song's identity even when the other tracks aren't there.

It might push you a teeny bit, but not a lot, and that's good anyway.

Keane Bedshaped is a good one, it’s quite slow, and uses a lot of block chords.

There are various tutorials, including at least one with transcribed notes.

Beethoven's - Fur Elise or "Moonlight Sonata"

I am not a musician but both sound relatively simple (sorry Ludwig) but still stunning pieces.
