First one I recall buying myself

Woolworths bargain bin, had to have something because my sister had bought a record. I'd heard a few singles at the time, nothing else, and this sparked an interest in the band that is still there.

There may have been a kids album bought for me before that - another thread had an album of songs about cars that I did have, so that would have pre-dated X-Certs, and had fewer rude words so didn't catch me out when playing it on the only record player we had, in the living room.

Snap! Still a fine album with a great live sound- recorded in front of a a studio audience rather than in concert, but that worked really well..

My brother lives in St Helier, Jersey, this has been moored up all week, At light it projects a moving image of the album sleeve down onto the water, it's really cool. Not sure if Jeff Lynne or not!

The first that I can definitely remember is this but I'm sure I'd already bought some before it, I just can't remember them:

Me too. Christmas present when I was 12 or 13. Wasn't quite what I expected compared to their hit singles!

Lost interest in music for a bit and then my first self-financed purchase was Mike Oldfield's Hergest Ridge.

Great album. As was Propaganda. Those 2 were probably my 4th and 5th albums I bought.

Useless fact, the girl on the right of the Kimono cover sang the Japanese vocals on Bowie's It's No game, on his Scary Monsters LP.

On topic, first one bought with my own money as a kid (well, I would have been about 12 at the time):-
