Do you play any Lou Reed, Bob Seger or George Thorogood? Can't recall Bob Seger doing anything that's easy to learn
What are the two Bob Seger songs that you cover...............Please

I do 'Old Time Rock and Roll' and 'We've Got Tonight'. The latter is one of my favourites to do, when the atmosphere is right that one can be amazing. Can't recall Bob Seger doing anything that's easy to learn

Ahhh, you only play the easy ones then
I love those two songs amongst many others by the same band
Guessing it took much work to perfect those two songs
Like A Rock and Turn The Page are other big favourites
Cheers

Yep, I'd like to learn another Segar one, I also like both the ones you mention. The one I really like by him is called 'The Fire Inside', but it's not really worked out well enough on guitar when I have had a look at arranging it.

Can imagine it to be a very difficult one to cover
Your post got me searching for more information, found this https://americansongwriter.com/the-fire-inside-bob...
Anyway, hoping that you enjoy your work for many years to come. Life must surely have been very difficult for you recently due to Covid 19
It's not every day a person gets the opportunity to communicate with a musician
Used to often chat away with several musicians that became friends, moved on and never see them these days, never will forget their work though
Cheers

What often pisses me off is when people knock some artists without having heard hardly any of their music
Why? Surely it would be much worse if they knocked artists having heard hardly any of their music, or if they hadn't heard all of their music!Penelope Stopit said:
Me too, should have included The Fire Inside, yes it's a cracker, amazing words to an amazing sound, plus the speed of it

Yep, it's been a bad time for entertainers, but there appears to be genuine light at the end of the tunnel now. In fact, it seems I might be finally heading back to the USA within the next month to resume work.

WRT "The Fire Inside", I've just had a listen on YT and, yes, it's going at a fair old lick that's for sure. It seems to be in the key of G#maj, which makes playing the little "motif" (G# / A# / C / A# / G# / A# / C / G#) tricky on guitar when trying to hold down a G#maj chord.
I tried it by transposing down half a step in to Gmaj, which makes it a lot easier by playing an open G chord and hammering on and pulling off the 4th string combined with the open 5th string. A Cmaj7 sounds good after the "motif".

Sounds like you've done some solid work on 'The Fire Inside'. I'm a bass-baritone, so I always have to make significant changes to keys. With that song, I decided I would probably have to change it so much to do it guitar/vocal that it might not work too well. There are a lot of other great Segar songs, I might have a look at doing 'Roll me Away'.

I must admit, I'd not listened to any Seger tunes before Fire Inside but it's piqued my interest that's for sure. Good, honest songwriting.
Doing a bit more experimenting with the tune earlier, the verse is just a I / IV7 progression so G#maj / C#maj7 as recorded. But you could transcribe it to any key that suits your vocals : go down 3 frets to the key of F and it would be Fmaj / Bbmaj7. It should be noted, right here, that I can not sing for toffee!
Generally my radio listening is 6Music, though it’s pretty narrow in its output (white guitar bands is its bedrock), so I don’t expose myself to much in the way of chart pop music (new or old). For other genres I like (electronic, etc) I search elsewhere.
On the whole I like to listen to new music, so old stuff tends to be pre-filtered by that prejudice - I once went through a phase of not buying/listening to anything that had been released more than a month ago! I’ve toned that down now.
That said, the whole “the 60s were the pinnacle man” has got on my tits for nearly 40 years, so I’ll likely ignore any of the boomers’ big hitters. And also boomers hate not being the centre of attention….
One band that I will actively switch off the radio for is The Doors.
