Your most embarrassing record purchase

Sometime in 1967 I went into a record shop and asked, "Do you have 'The Laughing Gnome' by David Bowie?"

Fortunately that day has been erased from my memory and I have no idea where or precisely when the incident took place. Can anyone top that for an embarrassing purchase?

BTW, I played it this afternoon. Probably for the first time since 1967.

In 1972 (I was a gauche 13 year old) I went to buy Alice Cooper's Schools Out album. I was served in the record shop by a very lovely 18 or 19 year old lass... you may know that the album came with a free pair of girls knickers... which the pretty lass lasciviously pulled onto the LP and put it in the cover. Handing it to me she said 'Enjoy'... I must have been bright red, but it, ahem, left a lasting impression.

When I was was a student, HMV in Coventry used to do "bargain bundles" of three or four 12" singles wrapped up together for a couple of quid.
Some joker put a Fields of the Nephilim disc one side, a The Mission disc on the other, sandwiching a copy of Diana Ross doing Chain Reaction in the middle.

Embarrassing? What the blazes are you on about? Nice to see someone else bought it "first time around". It didn't sell as well as Like A Virgin did, but after the success of that second album this one got another release under the title 'Madonna - The First Album'.

I'm struggling to see anything more embarrassing in my record-buying past than Cliff And The Young Ones - Living Doll on 7" vinyl from Sullivan's Record Centre. Although later on there were the first three Five Star albums on cassette, but Britannia Music spared me the embarrassment of having to look a record shop staff member in the eye during those purchases...

I tell people my first CD was Oasis. It was actually 2Unlimited “No Limits”. The shame.

Those are the only 2 CDs I’ve bought. I decided my hit rate wasn’t high and I should avoid buying more.

My sister got karma chameleon on the same trip ( she was only 7!)

Before reading your reply this was also the one that came to my mind. I bought this, Tarzan boy and the Spitting image record as a kid. I'm sure I also have a 12" pressing of a London Boys record in my collection too

I still sing "I've never met a nice South African" under my breath on a regular basis!

How about Shakin' Stevens Greatest Hits and Showaddywaddy in my much younger days (for reference I was about 6 or 7)
